a 1st and a prospect most likely - griouxmvp2012
they need offense badly.....I would think the Kings would want a forward who can contribute now

Actually they would. See LA has about 1 million in cap space. Stoll and Bernier make 4.8. Carter makes 5.2... But remember, Now LA has to replace Bernier, and I bet they have to trade for someone as I dont think their prospects are ready... - RooNosHockey
Actually no they wouldn't need to clear space to make that deal. They would have plenty of room left over to add a backup Goalie. |

So the Kings are going to trade Bernier, Stoll and a 1st to Columbus for Carter.
And since they don't have another guy in their system that they trust as a back-up goalie, they're going to trade Jack Johnson for picks/prospects to create cap space so that they can trade another asset for a back-up goalie.
Got it. - bradleyc4
Yup.. They are using their strenghts (Defense and Goaltending) to address Scoring. Columbus obviously didn't want Johnson in a deal for Carter... |

You dont think it is a flawed move to trade on of your top young d-men for picks and prospects so that you can add a back up goalie? |

If they trade Johnson, they have to look at replacing everything Johnson brings. He plays 22 minutes a night. He's their PP QB. So either MAB or Gus, or somebody currently on their roster would have to replace what Johnson is doing.
Johnson isn't exactly Rod Langway or Scott Stevens, he's an offensive defenseman, so trading him would probably impact the offensive side of things, especially the PP, more than the defensive side.
There's no logical reason for the Kings to trade Stoll, Bernier and a 1st for Carter and then turn around and trade Johnson for a 1st and prospect. If the goal is to recoup the 1st, they can trade Johnson at the draft. - Jsaquella
Well still at the end of the day the rumor is the Flyers asked the price on JJ and it's a 1st and a prospect. Whether or not they use the extra cap to go after Carter or Parise or whoever is really nothing to get up in arms over. Personally I think the prospect they want back could be along the lines of a MAB, Gus, Harry Z, Wellwood type. Some people are suggesting Voracek. How is he still considered a prospect tho? I think the Flyers would hang up the phone if the price was Voracek and a 1st. |

Actually, Los Angeles can take on a $2.5mm cap hit as of today, and $3.6mm at the TDL. |

I think a greater question for the Kings is are they willing to have two guys under contract making over $5 million for the next 10 years with both having no-trade clauses. The no trade clauses are the tough part if I'm Lombardi. - ravishingone
Depending on what the teams they were traded to agreed to, according to the CBA, both Carter and Richards NTC's are voided when they were traded. |

At the end of the day, all I am asking is, does the "rumor" make a lick of sense on any level?
Cap space is not a real issue in any way shape or forum if they are trading roster assets to add Carter or Parise. Does LA have anyone that can replace what Johnson brings to the table in the immediate future? |

Because ek said la wants carter, that means Columbus doesn't want JJ or Defense? |

Do you honestly think that LA woould take one of the prospects that you mentioned, along with a first round pick, for Johnson? They will be marginal NHL players. They will want a top prospect, not a throw in prospect. |

I dont see the Kings making a move period. Rumors happen all the time right before the TDL but most of them never come true. |

I thought the only way they would be voided was if the player waived it to be traded. Being that they were not enacted to begin with, I dont know how that would be the case... I am not sure though. |

My feeling is this is why they want a 1st. It's going to be a deep defensive draft. Does that help them the next two years right away? Maybe not. But you've got to remember they are literally the polar opposites of the Flyers right now. All defense. No offense. You'd think they'd want to move JJ for a forward but apparently they are content with a draft pick and prospect, given the rumor.
Let's remember GMs are not computers. It's not a given that every move is always going to make a ton of sense at any given time. Who's to say that they aren't trying to load up on 1st's to try and land two big forwards? God knows they could use them. |

Depends what the prospect is... If the Prospect is Matt Read... Then LA is trading Stoll, Bernier, and Johnson for Carter and Read .... Not too bad for a team looking to add scoring. Even if its Voracek... |

Did a quick back read scan. Surprised not to see any chatter about the Dominic Moore hit on Fedetenko last night. That to me should be an automatic 10 games. And what the Seravalli was the back official watching to only hand out a 2 min. minor for roughing on that play? Donkey clowns.
