That still doesn't explain how Bob deserved to start after he gave up 5 goals. If Bryzgalov did that no one would be saying he deserved a start. - JoeRussomanno
Cause 4 of the 5 he had no chance against, and the 5th bounced off him and in while he was going from one side to the other.
If you're pinning those 5 goals from yesterday on Bob, you need to re-evaluate.

He may have been vocal in the locker room but the reference was that he was vocal to the media after the game. - 77rams
Exactly, Timonen should keep those comments in the locker room. I understand he's frustrated. But other players have been criticized for saying similar comments towards teammates.

No' he's saying his point is in relation to one game where and how many saves were made, in which you then changed the context to include the whole Season. - MJL
Im very well aware what he means. I'm saying its a dumb point to make to begin with. |

Bruce Garrioch just put out a story on NHL GM's looking for a proposed one-time amnesty buy-out as part of the next CBA:
http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam.../2012/02/11/19369046.html
Assuming the exemption can only be exercised on a single contract, I'm wondering who the Flyers would most likely look to take off the books. I think most people's immediate assumption would be to use the amnesty to get out from under Pronger or Bryzgalov's deals, but I for one think it would be better if used on Briere, who still has 3-years left on his monster deal and has already been supplanted by Giroux as the straw that stirs the drink, and looking forward, Schenn, Read and Couturier could all use the extra icetime, especially on the PP.
Any opinions? - Tomahawk
Those would be the top three obvious candidates. The only reason I'd hesitate on Briere is because he's been a monster in the PO's. |

Thats because when Bryzgalov gives up 5 goals, 2 or 3 of them are usually his fault.
The game yesterday could have been 7 or 8-2. - mochoson
Oh okay so by what you're saying is if Bryzgalov was plugged in there and only 4 of the goals were Bob's fault that Bryzgalov would have had them because he only gives up goals that are his fault. Then by that Logic he's the perfect goalie for this defensively plagued team. Just needs to stop being at fault for the goals allowed I see. |

Just not ready to give up on Bryz. He's one I'd consider but right now I'd still go with Pronger. |

Yes he had no chance but on similar goals I have heard Bryz is paid to do that like Paying him so huge amount of money makes him more than human. Let's face it if that was Bryz yesterday this board would have at least 5 pages ripping the guy despite what Bill said. - JoeRussomanno
That's because Bryz is being paid so much money, and because Bryz isn't a second-year 23 year old goalie. Expectations are deservedly different. |

Buyouts have a formula, but who knows what the concession would be in the contract.
And what the owners want in the CBA isn't exactly what they'll be getting in the CBA.
I'm expecting to save money on hockey next year. |

I personally hope they don't do this. I'm a fan of hockey first, Flyers second. Certain GM's played poker with the cap rules and now have to sit behind their reduced chip stacks. Both the Pronger and Bryzgalov deals were bad imo. And I'm not just saying that because Prongs is out now. I didn't like the length of the deal from the get go.

If were talking about dumb points to make, then we need to go back to referencing Bryzgalov's deal versus making 17 saves in a game, and what it buys you.

Bryz should get every goal. And every goal scored by a Flyer was unstoppable by the opponent. Get with the program! |

How many games has he played in the NHL?
Finally, what are his stats?

Or Bryzgalov could have made a big momentum making save and having a different circumstance. It's almost impossible to say with any certainty what another player wold have done in a game he didn't play in.

Oh so Bryz being paid money suddenly makes him super goalie that can bend his body at lightning fast speeds to make saves that weren't Bobrovsky's fault yesterday but have been scored on him and he gets blamed. I see thanks for clarifying that for me. Like Bullies phan said we should pay him more money so he plays better. |

I'm trying to figure out your point which was Bob deserves to start today. Why b/c Bryz isn't 100% no duh! But that doesn't make Bob worthy of another start when he gave up 5 goals yesterday and if Bryz is healthy which is why he would start, isn't worthy of a start after he posted a shutout.
You came back with it was only 17 saves and that's not what we are paying him to do. I pointed out Lundqvist who is considered the best goalie in hockey right now, gave up two goals on a handful of shots more and he's paid a whole lot more.
So this is where we are at. You want to give the guy who gave up 5 goals yesterday the start over the guy who on his last start gave up 0 goals because it was only 17 shots and he's paid 5.6 mill a year. That's my point. - JoeRussomanno
If your trying to say Bob doesn't deserve to play because he gave up 5 goals, then I don't see the point in discussing it any further. Bob had a chance to save ONE of those goals. Bob made 2 or 3 other fantastic saves he had no business making. Asking him to make 2 or 3 more just to make it "a game" isn't exactly fair.
Lundqvist is not paid "a whole lot more".
Your basically turning around what I'm saying by saying Lundqvist allows two more goals on only a few more shots. Its like your saying "Well if Bryz doesn't deserve to start, neither does Lundqvist, because he didn't do much better in one game".
But you then say Lundqvist is the best goalie in hockey, which is my point. Lundqvist could allow 4 goals on ten shots in one game and get pulled. Theres still a good chance he starts the next game because he's been THAT good. Bryz on the other hand, would almost surely be replaced by Bob. |

Do you even know what you are arguing any more?
Bottom line: Bob gave up NO bad goals yesterday. What would have happened if Bryz had been in goal is fruitless speculation.
Bryz was brought in to be The Man. Not be so-so. He is older and getting paid a lot more than Bob.
If you are comparing the two in defense of Bryz, you've already lost the argument. |

Agree about Briere. He puts up points in the payoffs when it hardest. It's fascinating how a guy can go from being a non-factor at times to being a serious impact playoff performer. |
