How old is Bob?
How much money is he making?
How many games has he played in the NHL?
Finally, what are his stats? - wolfhounds
Apparently it doesn't matter if he's not to blame on goals. There are saves goalies make and those they cannot regardless of experience salary level etc. This all started because the other guy said Bob deserved a start after a 5 goals allowed performance but when asked why Bryzgalov did not deserve the start after a 0! goals allowed performance countered with it wasn't good enough.
So:
Pay Bryz more money- check
Let him face more even more shots - Check
I understand perfectly. |

I personally hope they don't do this. I'm a fan of hockey first, Flyers second. Certain GM's played poker with the cap rules and now have to sit behind their reduced chip stacks. Both the Pronger and Bryzgalov deals were bad imo. And I'm not just saying that because Prongs is out now. I didn't like the length of the deal from the get go. - rockychocbill
In a way your right, because a big reason for putting in the Cap is to have some fiscal control and sanity over spending. Well it didn't seem to have any effect on a lot of teams. They still kept spending away. It's kind of having to wear two different hats. One rooting for your team, and then separating yourself from that and looking at the health of the League for the greater good of the sport. |

If you buyout the contract, do they still get the money?
because Bryz deserves nothing - Scottie Upshall
It reads they get a 2/3 buyout of the remaining contract.
Anybody care to calculate? |

No one who understands the cap wants to get rid of Pronger's deal (if they expect he's just going to be permanently unable to play). Bryzgalov or Briere are the two that deserve consideration. Although I don't believe what you've seen of Bryzgalov so far is all you're getting, it is the longest biggest contract, so they have to look at it. - bodiva88
Not advocating Pronger, because I think the book isn't closed on him coming back next season, but tapping into LTIR constantly hurts in two ways: not being able to bank cap space (hurts at the trade deadline, especially), and always being in danger of bonus overages.
Most fans want a mulligan on Bryzgalov, but the amount left would be a hard sell to Snider, plus the dearth of quality alternatives of upcoming free agent goalies would put the Flyers in a worse spot on the ice. Bob has been better, but he's nowhere close to having shut the door on Bryz for the starter's job.
It's a tough call all around, but being able to get rid of one of the three could allow the team to move forward with more flexibility. |

If were talking about dumb points to make, then we need to go back to referencing Bryzgalov's deal versus making 17 saves in a game, and what it buys you. - MJL
I dont think it was a dumb point at all. He made 17 saves. Whoop tee (frank)ing doo.
Has it really been that bad this season? Are we really getting excited over a 17 save shut-out?
Now don't misunderstand, I'm not faulting Bryz for that game. You can't blame a goalie who is perfect in regulation when your team has 40+ shots and can't burry one goal.
But lets be real now. We signed Bryzgalov to be THE guy here. He has yet to establish himself as THE guy. 17 saves isn't anything to get excited over. |

Agree about Briere. He puts up points in the payoffs when it hardest. It's fascinating how a guy can go from being a non-factor at times to being a serious impact playoff performer. - 2731color
And as much as he was a nonfactor yesterday, I do wonder about sitting for 10 minutes and then coming back into a game that's out of control.
And what the heck did he say coming out of the box that got him 10 mins.
I would also like to understand how when two guys are scrapping one is worth 4 mins and the other 2. Did he land more punches over the linesmen? |

No the problem is Bob gets a pass when he gives up 5 goals Bryzgalov gets destroyed. I don't need to re-evaluate anything. - JoeRussomanno
Do you actually watch the games dude? Or do you just look at the boxscores? Cause even the boxscores show the PPG's. And even then, they don't tell you that the PK guys were standing around with their heads up their ass on pretty much every kill. |

Right, I'm not clear on that argument regarding starting Bob over Bryz if Bryz is well.
That being said, Bob played well yesterday. He did nothing to not deserve to play tonight other than the fact he is, as of now, still the backup. |

Do you even know what you are arguing any more?
Bottom line: Bob gave up NO bad goals yesterday. What would have happened if Bryz had been in goal is fruitless speculation.
Bryz was brought in to be The Man. Not be so-so. He is older and getting paid a lot more than Bob.
If you are comparing the two in defense of Bryz, you've already lost the argument. - wolfhounds

If you saw the first period of that game you know that although they had "only" 17 shots, their chances in the first period were largely firedrill odd man rushes that are no gimmes. If the Flyers had managed to score a goal, Bryz would have gotten justifiable props for a hard-won shutout. |

Well that's a matter of opinion. And yes when a Goalie stops every shot that a team makes against in a game, it's something to be excited about. Again there is the difference in the context of looking at a single game, versus looking at the full Season that you said you understood.

Okay and my point was which you don't know was not the matter of good or bad goals was, that Bryzgalov gave up no goals in his last start.
Bobrovsky gave up 5 goals in his last start and saying he deserved a start over Bryzgalov is hogwash. There;s no he make this amount of money, he;s this old or that old, he's got green eyes the other guy has blue etc.
Bottom Line Bryzgalov played good enough to allow zero goals. He made saves on chances that would have been considered good goals too not soft. To say Bob deserves a start over him for Bob's last performance is A-B-S-U-R-D. |

They gave Sestito an extra two for the late intentional contact with Lunqvist that caused the whole altercation. A questionable call nonetheless. |

Wasn't Sestito's extra 2-min for bumping/hitting/tapping Lundqvist to get the whole thing started? |

Nailed it. Most of those shots were quality chances and Bryz made some great saves. |

Im not criticizing or hanging that loss yesterday on Bobrovsky. all I'm saying is if we're going to judge who deserves to start based on most recent starts- Bryzgalov gets the nod. The only reason he hasn't been is obvious. |

No one has said anything to the contrary. Only that based on Bryzgalov's last start, he deserves to play.

I've seen games where the goaltender had to stand on his head to stop less than 17 shot at him to win, and games where goalies slept walked though a 35 shot game to win.
It's always about quality more so than quantity. |
