The Rangers are fantastic in the slot in both ends of the ice. - Jsaquella
A good amount of that has to be coaching. The Rags defense isn't overly physical. A lot of it is being sound positionally. |

Clean hit by Kronwall, glad nobody felt the need to take a retaliation penalty.
Damn...Jagr has to bury that.

Wow and Wow. How did that puck stay out of the net, and how did they not need a spatula to scrape Briere off the ice. |

This is a tough one. I like you understand that he lacks the physical attributes to win physical battles. My only complaint is when he lacks effort in the defensive end, and simply coasts or just fails to pay attention to the detail needed defensively. The thing is that with the offensive output he gives in the playoffs, offsets the negative defensive aspects. Now if he doesn't produce as he has in the past in the playoffs, then there would be a big issue. An argument can be made that it's tough to win like that. With having a key player not having a two way game. Especially for a Center - MJL
Its why I have trouble with it too. I like the guy, he seems like a real honest player and person. But...it frustrates me to no end when I see Simmonds and Schenn working their tail off in the offensive zone and then there's Briere, waiting behind the net just expecting the other two forwards to do all the work.
And here again, he's not going to win many battles on the boards and maybe its a set design for him to 'hide' away from the play, but when Bill talks about every player being on board with playing the gamed completely on board with each other while playing both ends of the ice, I think of Briere. |

Part of it may be coaching, but you also have to have physical courage and good discipline to be good at it. Guys like Kerr and LeClair were so dominant because they couldn't be riled easily. Guys would get away with murder on those two, and they'd usually turn that into a goal.
When the Flyers get traffic in front, it's flowing and moving, but not usually an effective screen and definitely not very effective at deflections.
In their own end, sometimes it just seems they're too timid of taking a possible penalty or something. |

Agreed. Guys like Meszy and Coburn are big enough and physical enough to be much better at doing just that. |
