Yea I agree it's like rebuilding but staying a contender....I was just saying if they made a move for schenn. It wouldn't be to fix this year it would be a move to rebuild the d corps we need some young dman cause the future don't look to good for our d - griouxmvp2012
That's how I see it.
There's two paths the Flyers can take that I'd agree with.
Path one is adding cheap, solid vets for low prices to solidify the team in case they suddenly get hot, or catch some great luck or have a repeat of 2010, when a lesser team knocks out the top teams and leaves a clear road to the Final.
Path two is adding young guys with potential to grow with the Schenn, Couturier Giroux core and develop together into a beast. Depending on the cost of a the solid vets, they can probably do both, to some degree. |

That's the thing with Lee...he calls everything. He's one of those refs that thinks making a ton of calls keeps a game from getting out of hand. The Flyers have to know who is reffing and play accordingly, especially when it comes to shenanigans. - Jsaquella
I'm fine if he calls what he sees... But, what did he see... Sestito tapped the goalie with his stick, 3 rangers jumped him (one had Sestito in a headlock), Bickel clearly drop the gloves early... And, then he calls this???
08:01 Philadelphia Tom Sestito: 2 minutes, roughing
08:01 Philadelphia Tom Sestito: 2 minutes, roughing
08:01 NY Rangers Stu Bickel: 2 minutes, roughing
08:01 NY Rangers Stu Bickel: 10 minutes, misconduct
08:01 Philadelphia Tom Sestito: 10 minutes, misconduct
Where is the instigator for Bickel?
That type scrum around the net happens all the time, almost in ever game. It developed into a fight. If there are penalties... 99% of the time, the ref equalizes the penalties.

Yea. See I don't have a prob with this season. I mean they r the 3rd best team in the conf. I didn't expect that. If they get to the 2nd round of the playoffs I'll say it was a pretty successful season. I'd be happy |

To be honest, he probably viewed the entire thing as Sestito instigating the mess by whacking Lundqvist. That's the kind of stuff Lee has called his entire career as a ref, which is why I say the Flyers have to be more aware of who the Zebras are in a given game. |

Going in, I expected them to be where they re now. Of course, I was counting on Pronger to be healthier, Briere and JvR to be playing better and Bryzgalov to be playing more consistently.
Given the injury woes, and the subpar play of several key vets, their spot in the standings is impressive. They can also rebound and turn things around in short order. I'm not writing off this season, just tampering my expectations. |

Right, don't give the referee a chance to make the call. Sestitio, regardless of how weak of a whack it was on Lunqvist, caused the altercation. The Rangers are going to protect the goalie there. It's a dumb play by Sestito. But instigators such as Sestitio, Rinaldo, Hartnell, etc. It's live by the sword, die by the sword. |

What's he doing to stay concussed thru the deadline, banging his head repeatedly against a wall? - MJL
So...you don't think it might be easy to fail a baseline test? Jumble a couple of letters of the alphabet? A young guy that doesn't want to be traded...just sayin'. It will strike me as very odd if he returns just after the trade deadline...again...just sayin'. |

I mean of course I want them to win the cup I just don't expect them to. And every young team has its ups and downs it has to be expected and typically the flyers hit a wall every year almost at this time of year so I just hate when people get down on them so bad |

He's obviously faking it, so he won't be traded. And what's he going to do in the off season to make sure he can't be traded. Fake a serious illness?

No player would fake an injury to stay with a team in order to avoid being traded. JVR isn't desperate to remain a Flyer. He's anxious to play hockey, but can't right now.

Thanks Bill. That's what I was looking for. I, however, am not so certain that "no player" would do that, as MJL had indicated. Remember Carter's whiney reaction after he was traded last summer? He held up in his beach house until the BJ's management came down and kissed his butt. If I'm a Flyer and see two "franchise players" run out of town on a rail, I know just how expendable I am. Almost every closet GM on here had him going to TO for Schenn. I can't imagine as being a competitive athlete going from a contender to pretender. That's an ego crusher. Look at how both Carter and Richie haave done this year for their respective teams. I'd want to avoid that at all costs. |

I don't mind criticism, but too many people take it past rational criticism to some kind of asinine level reserved for people who do most of their ranting to padded cell walls |

Getting traded (especially for the first time) is tough on a player for a little while. But they want to play hockey. No player is so desperate to stay with his current team that he'd outright fake an injury to make himself untradeable. There is no way that would end up well for the player.

Some of the stuff read last night, oh boy. One response after every single loss is that the defenseman aren't good enough. Every single loss is on the defenseman. Even blaming the one defenseman back on a 2 on 1 against. - MJL
did you see gusty on the 4th goal? what was he thinking diving away from the play? |

He didn't dive away from the play, he dove to try and break up a cross ice pass to a wide open player.

I agree with you, but if I was going to fake something...with all the focus on concussions right now and the uncertainty around them...that would be the card to play right now. And nobody can ever prove at which exact moment in time he was symptom free. So let's say he reads HB and sees all the Schenn stuff and he really IS concussed. Don Luce is in the press box for a bunch of TO games...he starts reading the writing on the wall...down in production Year over Year. He thinks - I just have to take my time and make sure I am 100% better before getting back out there. If that's after the deadline then so be it.
