It truly is amazing how good Lidstrom is. He's always in the right position, every pass is right on the tape, guy is unreal. At 41 the best d-man in the League still.

Good thing. Flyers are going to score here on the PP and tie this game up. |

How so? Was he not standing next to Franzen just seconds before he scored? He left his man to do someone else's job. That's what too many of them are doing right now. - rockychocbill
Talbot stopped on the backcheck, leaving Coburn to have to choose whether to cover Franzen or Lidstrom. Bad play all around. |

Shenn doesn't have a half bad shot from the point. Don't want a rookie back there on the PP vs. detroit, but maybe Lavi should file that away and have the young man work on that. |

Didn't watch much from 1990 - 1994? - Flyskippy
fortunately i was in college for that time period. vermont. espn2 was just born and not much hockey to be had other than HNIC. i focused a lot on the canucks at that point because i could watch a lot of their games on the weekend. very hard to follow the flyers from afar then. |

He can't just leave his man in front of the net and go to the puck. If he was worth covering by Coburn the first time around he is still worth covering. - PT21
and if he allows the shot everyone calls him worthless for not making a play. bottom line is what happened that led to the breakdown leaving him alone down low against two guys |

i'm so sick of defenders leaving an opposing player one on one with the goalie.
People wonder why the goalies look so bad.
I'm so GD angry at this defensive squad right now. The only guy you can't blame for that last goal was Kimmo. But hey, what do you expect when you leave Bob alone on an island with a guy like Franzen less than 3 feet away from him. |

Got to be able to beat a career AHL'er from the slot there. |

Hell, maybe Schenn can move to defense and they can bump Couturier up to play with good players, and not Fantasy Camp, Shelley and Zac Attack and send MAB back to ADK |

maybe so but he was left alone down low on a 2 on 1 while Timonen was along the boards standing there staring at the point. Just annoys the (frank) out of me that everyone jumps on him when he wasn't the cause - nastyflyergirl
Like I said above, the problems started when nobody came to help Timonen along the wall. Wings outnumbered him and won the puck. After that it was tic tac toe to the point, to Lidstrom, to Franzen.
At that point Coburn was doomed. He had two men to cover. If he stayed on Franzen, Lidstrom is wide open. He chose to move to Lidstrom, who made him pay. End of story.
Can't really fault Timonen or Cobrun on that play. Whoever the forwards were on the ice need to recognize they're at full strength and help win that puck on the wall. |

Wow, big save there on a major Detroit breakdown. See the goalie is allowed to come up with one. Sigh.[/img] |

Simmonds was just one on one with an AHL goalie from right in the slot. No rule against the goaltender making a save once in a while. |

I won't claim to play the same system as the Flyers but I know the system we play its my job as the center to rotate down and pick up the dman's positon on that play |

Blaming the goalie is easy. How many times in the last two games alone has someone scored with nobody within arms reach of the guy? If the goalie is so unbelievably bad, then play better defense and don't let guys get free shots every other shift. |

He may not have been responsible for the (frank)up but he hardly showed good judgement when placed in it. |
