He didn't dive away from the play, he dove to try and break up a cross ice pass to a wide open player. - MJL

Hindsight is 20-20. Look at the big picture. Who had the coverage on the guy wide open at the front of the net. Do you see how one breakdown leads to another? How many times do I read one player being blamed when all he was trying to do was cover up for another mistake made before that. Look at the Rangers and how they support the puck and are solid defensively. And when they do make a mistake, such as letting Giroux free on his goal, Ludqvist can usually cover up for it. Even though Giroux beat him there. The key to the Flyers isn't the forecheck or the puck pressure, or the goal scoring. It's team defense and puck support. Same for every team.

He's obviously faking it, so he won't be traded. And what's he going to do in the off season to make sure he can't be traded. Fake a serious illness? - MJL
I think I found the hit that knocked him out.

So...you don't think it might be easy to fail a baseline test? Jumble a couple of letters of the alphabet? A young guy that doesn't want to be traded...just sayin'. It will strike me as very odd if he returns just after the trade deadline...again...just sayin'. - section32
I don't think I have to really say anything, as this says it all. |

I think Retooling is a better word for it...
If it was a true rebuild, you don't sign Bryzgalov, you try to move Timonen and Pronger and Briere, you trade for picks and prospects and expect to take lumps. - Jsaquella
That would've been my plan last year, actually.
As far as JvR faking his injury, that preposterous and I don't believe it for a nanosecond.
What I believe they've decided is to conservatively address an injury issue of very young, very talented player who they are hoping will be a major contributor sooner than later. This is his second (I believe) concussion injury in his brief career. You need to be prudent in situations like his. |

Signing Bryz and Jagr wasn't a rebuilding year - Scottie Upshall
We signed Bryz to 9 years for the future, Jagr is here to help us win some games. It's a rebuilding year, just a very good rebuilding year standings wise |

It looks to me like a clear elbow to the jaw. Potvin (?) called it "embellishment" and "acting". Clearly JvR was affected by the hit. Whether that's what caused his problems, or was a contributing factor, who knows? |

EXACTLY my point. Nobody is gonna say to him...dude...you didn't even get hit. Get the heck back out there and stop being a puss...Not in this day and age. And with all the concussions we have had it could happen that he takes more time. I know that goes against everything you hear about competitive athletes, but... |

That's the way it looks to me as well. A direct shot right on the button. I think this is certainly what caused the concussion. He played I believe 3 games after this, as we have seen before, the more you play while concussed and take contact, the worse off a player usually is. JVR still reports he is in a fog, and doesn't feel right. If that is the case I'm not sure why he is even skating and practicing at this point. I think he is a long way from returning obviously. |

At best it's an indirect shot to the general vicinity. |

Getting traded (especially for the first time) is tough on a player for a little while. But they want to play hockey. No player is so desperate to stay with his current team that he'd outright fake an injury to make himself untradeable. There is no way that would end up well for the player. - bmeltzer
I agree. It makes no sense at all for a player to fake a concussion bc he is worried about being traded. Even if it were true that would be a classless act by the player and would ruin his reputation around the league. There is no benefit in faking an injury to avoid being traded. |

I think it's nonsensical for people to even suggest he is faking. Not to mention no one would be able to prove he was even if it was the case. If he says he is in a fog, how would anyone disprove this? Maybe when he does come back the time away may have improved his labored skating. |
