What the penalty call was is irrelevant. A player can be suspended even if there wasn't a penalty called. - MJL
I gotta be honest, I've seen worse plays not suspended or fined. I am at a loss sometimes on what does and doesn't get disciplined. |

Probably not..I agree with MJL about the explanation given, though. - Jsaquella
I'm alright with using prior fines to add on games to a hit that is suspendable on its own merits, but using fines to turn a minor into a suspension is lame IMO. That's my opinion of any situation like this in the league, not just a guy wearing a Flyer sweater. |

thank you for answering the question - 2Real
why wouldn't I answer the question? I don't like the contract and I never have but the fact is, he is on the roster so I am not going to whine for 3 days about it. |

Im hoping for the 7th seed on the last game of the season via shootout. Worked out pretty well for us last time around - jak521
Matt Carle scored the game tying goal late in the third to send it to OT.
What a loser, that Carle.

But that's not what happened. Prior suspensions and fines usually figures into the length of the suspension, not whether he was going to be suspended or not. He got suspended due to an illegal hit, not because he was fined previously.

He also set up two of the biggest goals during the playoff run. Gagne in OT game 4 against Boston and Giroux in OT game 3 against Chicago. |

Nope, none of that happened. It must of been someone else. Carle could play 40 solid games in a row. And nothing would be said. If has one sub par game, the haters come out of the woodwork to post how soft he is. |

Maybe a good decision. |

Don't know, I love watching the Wings.
Datsyuk, Zetterberg and Co are pretty good.
The 4th goal was full on Harlem Globetrotter Red Wings.
And the Flyers were right there with them until the third period.
It was frustrating of course, but to me a great game to watch. |

Like I said in a previous post, my initial reaction was no, I didn't think it deserved a suspension. But taking all the factors into consideration, I understand why.

Your opinion on technology is that everything you do is better and easier and more elegant and more wonderful and poops rainbows. Unless you are planning to volunteer your time and kick in the capital it isn't happening. - bodiva88
It pains me greatly to say this, but in this one, single, isolated case, 2real is right. There is no real technological reason not to have an ignore button. It doesn't have to be slow or glitchy, but to avoid that they'd have to change their software. And even if they chose open source software, there are still costs for migration, training, etc., etc., and I'm sure those costs are not in the HB budget. So I don't doubt that you're right when you say it's not going to happen.
But...2real...is...not...wrong......(gag).
I feel dirty.

But let's be honest. Unless the defenseman is laying out open-ice hits or hitting 110mph from the point, their flaws are magnified and their attributes often go unnoticed.
In my opinion, his greatest attribute is that you rarely notice him out there on the ice. I know that's generally a compliment for any defenseman, but it's especially true in his case. Sure he has the upside to be offensively-minded and a PP QB; but as is, he's responsible and rarely commits mistakes. |

I agree completely with what your saying. But I notice him. I notice all the subtle quality plays he makes with the puck game after game.
But your right, he doesn't have a big shot. So the uninformed focus on that and ignore all the other qualities that he brings to the ice.

He is a solid defender in his own end. The reality is that the way to determine what a player can earn in salary in the NHL salary structure is compare him to other players and what they're earning. And by doing that, you'll find that Carle is worth more the 4.5M a year. Especially in the Free Agent market. With the situations he plays in, and the numbers he puts up, unless he's willing to take significantly less then he's worth. You aren't getting him for 4.5M.

Interesting look at Carle against another pending UFA defenseman - Jsaquella
Carle is a very underrated player, and very under appreciated as a player here by many. All the evidence year after year points in the same direction. But it just get's ignored. Why? I think it goes to what Steelydan said earlier. Doesn't make board jarring hits, or has a big shot from the point.

agreed hes getting atleast 5M so thats why i said he prolly will be gone next year.. alot depends on this Prongs health and who the other UFA are but hes gonna ask for 5+ and i dont blame him... i hate giving anyone more then 5 mil in the cap world cause it usually means long contracts and etc.. in sayin i think he does turn the puck over from time to time but who doesnt.. i do think hes undervalued at times by the fans... it is what it is... to be honest im surprised he hasnt been in trade rumors cause he might be leaving... im not saying trade him... just suprised he isnt in some ridiculous package deal for weber or something |

He's not in rumors because if they were to trade him, they'd basically be sellers. Also, even if they traded him for another defenseman, they're only likely making a lateral move.
As to if he will return...I have no idea. I could see moves on defense this summer, maybe Coburn or Mesz goes. It could be fluid this summer. |
