I was gonna say the same thing but couldn't be bothered until you stuck up for the beautiful game there are so many nuances of the game that go unnoticed on the pitch. It too is like a chess match with continuous motion. By far the most popular sport in the world bar none!

I hate Rugby, can't stand watching it. I'd rather watch the Hurricanes play the Blue Jackets.
- Scooby_Doo

I lived in Oz for 3 years and really got in to the NRL down there which is Rugby League (not Rugby Union). Different game and really fast and exciting to watch.

My favourite sports to watch are hockey, golf, baseball, NFL and tennis.

Golf is a great spectator sport. Might be the only sport I could watch continously from 7am to 3pm.
Baseball is like a game of chess, if you don't know what moves are being made, you'll have no clue what's going on.

Heck, most of my friends don't even know what they are watching when they watch a Canucks game... they see puck go in net and they cheer.

HD saved golf. Now I love it cuz it's so clear. Who do you think will be on the Jays 5 man rotation at the start of the year. I have a feeling itll be

Romero
Morrow
Alvarez
Cecil
McGowan

I'm skeptical about Drabek. God I hope he develops but even when he was having "good" games I just couldn't find this "nasty" stuff everybody was talking about. His fastball looked flat and he couldn't hit the strike zone with his curve ball to save his life.

Would have been nice, but not with that contract.

Their bullpen is stronger than ever, but a big bat would be nice.

If Snider, Rasmus and Lawrie can have breakout years than the Jays will be in contention.

Yeah, McGowan/Drabek will be battling for the 5th spot.

I've lost all hope for Snider... Lawrie pretty much had a break out year last year, so we just need him to continue that. Rasmus having a breakout year would be huge. And Lind returning to form.

Snider was brought up way to early. He's got such easy power in his swing that if he could ever square up the thing he'd be a 30 home run player. It's a shame really his talent is through the roof but he just can't make enough contact.

Corsi is a touchy subject around here. It's an advance stat that most hockey managers, including Mike Gillis, primarily now use to evaluate players and teams. Advanced stats began to be compiled publicly over the last 4 years. The teams that led the league in corsi percentages the last 4 years all went to the cup finals.

It's a touchy subject around here because advanced stats expose the average fan for what he really is when he attempts to evaluate a player. An average fan.

That's hard to for average fan to take, so advanced stats are made fun of so as to save face and convince yourself you know more about hockey than you actually do.

- K-Bomb

You have absolutely no way of knowing that to be true. And no GM worth his job would base their player evaluations on such an unproven (yes, I said it) stat. Even if it were a valid stat it would be but one aspect of evaluation -- as any real evaluator would know.

The term "advanced stats" is a total sham...you really should stop with it. It's just another newer stat/fad (time will tell) and nothing more. One could say you're even being arrogant about it.

Every time you pull out the old "average fan" routine your credibility on this gets even lower. It's not a matter of saving face at all, it's understanding that evaluations are not done in such a simplistic manner -- advanced stats indeed. There is much more to it than that.

As for your 'best teams' example: the best teams in the league usually are near the top in many stats categories -- you know, games won, goals scored, against, PP, PK, top scorers, top D, top goalies....

To sum up Corsi: sham and simplistic. It tells us what we already know.

Jays talk I was really disappointed in Cecil last year. He velocity was way off. Alverez was a pleasent surprise. Should the Jays be contenders for third place in the AL East, They need Morrow to find some consistancy.

Hes got the talent he just needs to bring it every game.

St Louis now plays the same way. You know between Phoenix, Nashville, and St Louis we've got some serious snoozefests to look forward to in the playoffs. And LA can't score but have good defense.
