I think his Cap hit is prohibitive for the Flyers. And I could see Columbus wanting JVR, and one of Schenn or Couturier for him. So I personally wouldn't do it. My argument is with those that say he's not a top Winger. He certainly is. - MJL
Define top winger for me because I disagree.

He is one of the top goal scoring wingers, not one of the top wingers. His point totals show that. |

It's obvious that he is. The guy has put up big numbers playing with nobody. Put him with Giroux, and he's 40+ in the bank. He's big and strong, skates well, shoots the puck well. He's an top talent.

You have to look at his situation in the context of defining him as a player.

I agree with that...MJL is calling him a top winger. Nash is no Marian Gaborik nor is he a Iginla in his prime. |

Look at Iginla then...he's never had great players around him, look at his career numbers. Top players rise above that.

I mean to me, it is pretty simple. To have a cap hit of 7.8 million on my team (if I was pulling the strings) you better be a consistent 90-100 points a season guy, not a 40 goal scorer guy. |

Nash is a stud, no doubt, since he plays in Columbus with nobody he doesn't get his just due. The cap hit is salty, but in two years when Roo has to be resigned, Kimmo and Hartnell will be off the books. A good chance Jagr won't be playing with the Flyers in two years.
The Flyers will probably get a d-man at the trade deadline, but he'll be a short term solution. If Homer can pull off a trade without including Coots and Schenn (not likely), I do have interest in Nash.

So in a few years your sitting with Nash and Giroux taking up 16 million or more in cap space when G signs his deal. |

Nobody is arguing the Cap issues. Taking on his Cap hit and how good of a player he is, is two different conversations.

I have zero interest in taking on the cap hit, but Nash is an outstanding plyr...a pwr forward if there ever was one. |

13 mill and 16 mill is a big difference when you are talking about 2 players. |

sigh, everyone knows Nash can score, we're not disputing that...he has scored 30+ goals several times in his career. To classify him as a top player I would say the following has to be looked at:
1.) Points Per Game needs to be ~1+
2.) Takes care of the puck/plays well defensively
3.) Can carry a team
4.) Scores Big Goals
I don't think Nash fits that bill. The only thing that makes him look like a top player is his salary. He takes shifts off, is lazy in his own end, and is overpaid.

yea if there both putting 80 pts its not much of a difference in saying that i wouldnt make the move just sayin... Nash is capable of 80 pts with G |

Am I the only one who thinks Bobby Ryan would be the absolute ideal fit with G? His cap hits nearly 3 mill less than Nash and you could overpay for him to get him out of Anaheim and you'd give up less. Not to mention, I am sure as a NJ native and a Flyers fan growing up he would be PUMPED to come to Philly.
Maybe I am crazy, but he seems like the absolute ideal fit to get G a legit goal scorer for the future. |

For 16 million they better be combining for 180-200 points a year. Not 160 |
