As would I. Which is why I said getting Nash would not be a good idea because of that cap hit. However, getting Giroux an elite goal scoring winger should be a priority to this team in the range of 5-6 million. I think that is an important thing to do when you have a kid as dynamic as Giroux. That should be a priority, whether it is this year, this offseason or next year. It needs to be done.
Could JvR become that guy? Yes. But when you have an elite talent like G, my thought is you can't mess around waiting on someone to reach their potential. - Flyers2821
I think everyone is forgetting about JVR's playoff performance last year. He has shown signs, when healthy, of what he is capable of and I think the Flyers should wait and see. There's no reason to make a knee-jerk reaction and trade for an "elite" winger yet. |

I thought that is what JvR is suppose to provide at some point. Why lock him up for 6 years at $4+M per year? - stveshdy
Suppose to yea. But he isn't yet and I am not willing to wait and hope he does. That is my point. |

Getting G a proven 35-40 goal scorer is not a "knee jerk reaction" when that is what you think JvR will become. You are just getting what you expect JvR to become sooner and guaranteeing you get it.
The only way it becomes a bad move is if JvR becomes a consistent 50 goal scorer... |

I agree he has a chance at becoming that, but when you have an elite talent like Giroux... I'm not willing to wait and hope he reaches that potential if I can acquire the sure thing right now. (not saying they can, but if they can) - Flyers2821
Well you have to weigh the costs for acquiring that sure thing.

Why not wait? JVR is only 22 I think, he hasn't even scratched the surface yet. |

You're potentially setting the Flyers up for Cap difficulties though, not many elite wingers are available for 5-6 mil. |

Getting a scoring winger to play with Giroux is not high priorty as of today. The Flyers should be looking for help on defense. I dont disagree with getting a scoring winger but that is something I would go after once my defense is sured up. |

How are you not willing to wait? With young forwardslike Couturier and Schenn, young D like MAB and Gus, a life-long contract in Bryz; this team is built for the future with a competitive edge for the current. Why we would dump a young stud with 6 years on a 4M contract is stupid beyond belief.
There should be little doubt in what this guy can do. We saw his coming-out party against Boston last year, and he was on pace to score 30 this year. I see no reason why this guy's potential is in doubt.
I'd be willing to let go of Schenn before we let go of JVR. |

Setting G up with a winger for 5 years I think is a priority over anything else this team could do at this point, simply because they are not gonna win the cup this year anyways. |

I believe Schenn will offer more on the defensive end then JVR. I think next year he will be part of the PK. JVR has the potential to be a better pure goal scorer, but Schenn has the potential to be the better two way forward.

I couldn't disagree more. This team has a wealth of talent at the forward position. With the age of Timonen, the age of Pronger, and his health in question. Carle potentially leaving as a UFA. And the lack of top prospects at the defensive position. As well as the biggest current need being a need for help on the backend. The defense is clearly where the priority is. That's a no brainer. |

Too early to give up on JvR being that guy. So you want to add a forward before a defenseman even though we cant stop any team from scoring? I dont see the need for the winger when scoring hasnt been the issue. We have different opinions I guess and theres nothing wrong in that. |

I agree that it's too early to tell which one will be the better player. We are not mind readers and cannot make the decision. To be honest, I'm glad that I don't have to make that decision.
However, if you told me that Nashville was ready to part ways with Weber, and we've agreed upon all parts except we got to choose whether we wanted to include JVR or Schenn .................. and a gun to my head ............. I give them Schenn. A player with JVR's size and hands are certainly a commodity in this league that can pay off very largely. Now he obviously needs to continue to work to reach that role, but he's on a decent pace IMO. |

Any chance they wait until the off-season and possibly try to make a move on Suter because I agree that carle will walk. |
