Bowman is a math guy. He justed dumped Soupy's big contract why would he want to pick up another. Toews and Kane come due in three years, how would you be able to resign them without going into the 8 mill range. No player can make more than Captain Toews, much like on Detroit with Linsdrom. Bowman won't go into cap hell. This team needs a second line center and a 3-4 dman, and what about goaltending. I don't see Nash filling any of those holes. - hawksbuzz

Just speculating, but:
1) Because $8MM in three years won't be the same as $8MM now
2) Because the cap goes up $3-6MM a year and won't significantly reduce with the new CBA (though look for the floor range to be wider).
3) Because MdC can sell Nash
4) Because he can more more moves in the offseason before the draft

Maybe they consider trading Kane in the off season to reshape the team to improve on D. Not saying they should or shouldn't but it's food for thought. |

Damn you JJ and your hockeybuzz knowledge...
Can you tell us anyone involved aside from Rick Nash and or if its the best deal available. The Kings offer w/the Penner is garbage, only team I would think that's come close is Toronto. Give us something.......I beg you! Ill love you forever? - CaptnSerious
I'll give you this. If what I hear the Hawks offered is true, then Columbus would get two guys who give them elements they don't currently really have. They'd get another guy who could be a superstar in 3-4 years (or at least a decent NHL player), and they'd get another guy who is boom or bust (but more likely bust).
Basically, the hawks have offered at least three guys who are good to very good NHL players now or in the future. And there could be picks involved.
The Hawks could afford it under the cap and yet Columbus would free up some cap space.
I will also reiterate, this offer tells me the Hawks would not be done. Because the deal would create or make worse a hole on the Hawks. |

Only if I was 98% certain I could acquire 1-2 other players in a separate deal. And then, yes, I would. Could be a great deal for both teams. |

what holes do the hawks have that could get worse?...center. Toews is staying, so Bolland gets dealt. Although Kruger could take Bolland's spot it would still leave us a Center short |

Nash has potential for bigger impact. Assuming there's no "cap adjustment" on the next CBA, Nash's salary will be lower % of total next year than Soupy's last year. Now....that still doesn't solve the top-heavy issue. They'd have to make other moves, not just to improve over defence but on the money front too.
Where does it say Toews is highest paid? Sure cap hit is cap hit, but Soupy was more than Toews, cap hit and salary. And now even though their cap hits are less, Hoss & DK's salaries are higher, plus their terms are a lot longer. Toews is the last guy I'd figure be upset with this. That kid is so grounded especially for his age, its almost unbelievable. |

Funny, but not entirely true. I mean they have a nice 2-way defenseman in Wiz, a 3rd line C in Vermette, they have "things" but as I have often said of Columbus, they have a superstar and a bunch of ok to mediocre role players. This deal would fill them out with a couple more "good" young players. And there's a name involved who has possibly very high upside. |

I see the Dorsett/Shaw comparison but IMO Shaw has more skill and Dorsett is a bit tougher.
Boll or Dorsett ADDED to Shaw would help the Hawks a lot right now. |

Everyone tells me that every year, but since the lock out the cap has averaged an increase of $4.2MM a year.
If you want me to speculate what will happen, I think the cap might not go up as much, but there will be other options to handle cap space that will work just as well.

Defence: Hammer would be going the other way too; just my guess.
I can see Hammer moved before Bolland, though neither before Sharp. |

Dorsett would give the Hawks a tough physical forward and along with Nash gives the Hawks more of a physical presence. |

Why would Bowman create more holes in his lineup to trade for a player who fills no holes. If you are going to make drastic changes to the lineup it is better done on or before the draft, when more teams are involved. |

This - John Jaeckel
The biggest issue with acquiring Nash is the $7.8 which is is not only consderably more then a $6 mill players in dollar and cents but it can quickly overweight a team.
But LA would have only 1 player like that....Nash would have three $ 7 mill players if they resign Suter and Weber for example.
That's doubtful and don't be surprised if Poille gets really agressive and takes a swing for Selanne.
If Nash signs all three thigs will change and if they don't sign all three things will change.
LA is in decent cap shape no Penner, Stoll probably for next yr. and BJ's need a good goalie.. |

Nice. I like the sound of this......Everyday I wait for something to happen. Even if it's a rumor...at least there's a name involved. The team needs some shaking up. |
