Hawks will not turn it around tonight or anytime during this road trip. They will need a spark - a big trade, a callup, a fresh goalie, a coaching change.
The spark will come - if it does they will have an excellent March and at least solidify their mid-level seeding.
I don't get why we're in on Nash. We need a bonifide stud d-man that hits. And then we need a goalie change because you can see the morale and confidence escape whenever cc lets in a bad one because he's somehow ten feet away from the side of the crease they score on. - busmaster
Nearest I can tell...either a stud d-man just straight up isn't available for trade at this time, or simply costs the Hawks too much in trade. |

Haven't you learned by now? the overall disposition here is pessimism. Heck JJ'll prolly lose half his readership after this road trip as they find sharp objects, ledges, and ropes to dangle off of... |

Hearing all this talk about chemistry I rather offer up Hossa than Sharp. Sharp is a very likable guy in the locker room and why mess with the chemistry? Hossa and Nash have long-term contracts and Hossa's is a little more cap friendly than Sharp in the short term but not long-term. Also Hossa is 33 and has played a lot of hockey. |

True...playing in Columbus must be like playing in Siberia. Hawks should still be targeting defensive assets first and foremost. - philco28
I think a big part of our defensive problem is forwards that aren't physical, don't forecheck and give up the puck too easily. I would take a power forward over a D with how we are set up. I think it's a bigger need. I guess alot depends on Hammer/Monty injury front as well however.. |

I agree about acquiring a d-man, but how many decent to good ones are available, and at what cost? Kubina would be nice, but how much would you give up for a rental? Might have to wait until the summer.
Sharp at $3.9M is GREAT value; Sharp at 30, for FIVE years at $5.9M??? Not so much (unless he was a better two-way player, and played center...). |

exactly..
toronto or vancouver might be the two teams with the most assets to put together, and the desire to do so. both willing to sacrifice high end picks, have some top end young talent they could afford to part with, and some decent young to middle aged role players, to help the jackets in the now. both have some demanding markets to. |

JJ, I know you said that trade does nor surround Kane... but, could this trade lead to more trades... Tampa Bay that was mentioned earlier (could they want Kane?)...
I know that everyone mentions Kane's NMC; however, capgeek has an asterix next to the NMC - and it says "only eligible in 2014-2015 - TBA"...
It can mean 2 things: he cannot be traded until 2014-2015? Or, NMC id only eligible in 2014-2015? If it is the latter, then Kane could be a fair game in trade talks. |

Yep, can't see Holland being ok with Nash being the highest paid Wing. Would screw up the model that seems to be working for them pretty well. |

Now that I think about it does Sharp fit into these parameters?
DarrenDreger: To consider trading Nash, CBJ will insist on young roster players as prominent pieces of a deal. Location determined by Nash. |

How's that locker room chemistry doing for the team right now. I agree Sharp is a good locker room guy, but that is secondary. If you can improve the team, then Sharp's locker room presence doesn't even factor into the equation. |

Agree about our forwards. The '92 Hawks Cup team hit EVERYTHING THAT MOVED on the forecheck. This crew, for the most part, are content to do fly bys and avoid contact. Shaw, Jammer and Bickell (once every 15 games) will hit someone on the forecheck, but that's it. Boston would KILL US. |

You really think they want a 30 year old that is going to make 6 mil per for 5 more years? I don't think that solves much at all for them with their cap situation. I would rather keep Nash if I were them. I would want a promising young player or two that isn't a huge salary weight along with the two prospects you mention and the pick. The two that come to mind on our team are Stalberg and/or Leddy. |

If it's going to take something like Schneider and Hodgson I'd pass. Also moving forward, we'd have Henrik, Daniel, Nash, Luongo, Kesler taking up 30 mil in cap space. |

When you have some guys (forwards) out there that play nasty, hit, and aren't afraid to agitate.... The other team plays a whole lot more tentative. Now... other teams have free space. We had guys like that on every line a few years back. Need it now.. And need it even more for playoff hockey. |

"I'm not sure a new attitude is going to automatically raise Dylan Olsen's awareness level or give him the extra step of foot speed he currently lacks. I'm not sure it's going to turn a number of 180 pound rushers into the missing 220 pound crushers. Or that it's going to help a couple of shell-shocked goalies hold their crease. In fact, I have my doubts."
So do I...but good for a couple of wins...sure!

The d-man market is slim pickins i grant you and i hate to speculate about potential deals because a) i'm too lazy and
b) because it doesn't matter one friggin' iota who i like...
it's all up to Stan Bum Man and right now, as one
poster wrote, he's acting like a whiny wench, who
won't p*ss or get off the pot. |
