Despite what Dreger said, I have to believe they would have to get a"name" player back in order to sell tickets. Sharp is an all-star (would have been this year, too, if he wasn't hurt), and could easily be their Captain. Depending what other young assets they also acquire, could be a good long-term move for them. If I'm Columbus, I would ask for Leddy in addition to Sharp; then, Chicago should ask for Methot in return. Like I said before, Leddy will be a good player in a couple years, but Chicago's window to win is now.

Sharp
Leddy
Frolik
Crawford
McNeil or Saad
2012 1st rd pick

Nash
Methot
Boll
Mason

I don't see it. And why would they want Frolik? They won't. If we do get Nash, I hope we deal Sharp. That would leave us flexibility to fill other needed holes. I still think they will want young guys that are reasonable $$ wise that are pegged already to be very good players. Again on our roster Leddy and possibly Stalberg plus the prospects and picks. They may as well keep Nash if they are going to get Sharp back IMO..

Here's my question though, do you have to go far this year? Is risking the future to try this theory that will most likely fail anyway worth it? Maybe you don't lose in the first round, but if your defense and goaltending is a question mark you aren't making it much further.

Agreed, if the defense and goaltending doesn't pick it up then their going nowhere. However this team and fanbase is/was expecting a deep playoff run this year, anything less will be unacceptable. The Hawks used their "free pass" last year.

I don't think it's worth it unless they still make more moves on the defensive end. However the failure to improve the defense last offseason may have made it already too late to really address that area so maybe their trying to get Nash and will make the defensive additions/subtractions in the offseason. Who knows.

What about if the Hawks traded Leddy, Bickell (and/or) Stalberg off the NHL roster, either Pirri, McNeil or Saad (top prospect) and a #1 pick to Columbus for Nash and Boll or Nash and Methot.

All young players with some upside. Not advocating that the Hawks have to trade anyone, but Columbus isn't taking our garbage back for Nash.

Don't have access to the Cap information, so this might not work for the Hawks due to Nash's salary. In that case, maybe you keep Leddy and trade Hjalmarrson if he's healthy.

This would be more in tune with what they would want. But I am not sure Leddy and Stalberg are sure enough bets to be THAT young star in the making kind of guy I would think they want as part of this deal. And Bickell does nothing for them.

My guess is that CBJ would want at least Bolland, Stalberg, a #1 pick and very good d man prospect.

That's what I worried about. I know it's hard to step back and just do nothing. The thing that worries me is when you add Nash, lose Sharp or whoever, plus other picks/prospects only to find out that the cap is dropping this off-season and a year from now you are back to moving Bufflin, Versteeg, Campbell etc...

The whole impending changes to the CBA is what scares me on taking a guy like Nash. Would love him in Edmonton, but what exactly do we do when we have to give raises to our kids next year and the year after?

Just another thinking out loud comment, but what exactly does the Rangers have to offer without messing with their chemistry? I know they are another team in on Nash, but unlike the Hawks the Rags really have no reason to make a move for anyone this deadline.
