In all honesty, it was hard to find anyone liking the Shelley signing. And it's not Shelly people don't like; it's the length and cap hit. No reason why a player like that shouldn't be making the minimum or near it; especially when he's not an everyday player. - steelydan
especially taking into account letting Asham go, who is tougher and a better all around player. |

As soon as JVR comes back, we are getting Weber or Nash.

When the season started and Pronger was healthy, who was in the lineup as the # 6 dman? This notion that Lilja was a spare part is an incorrect one. He started the season as one of the 6 dmen in the lineup.
Sure, there were designs on working Gustafsson in, but MAB wasn't on anyone's radar when the season started. - PLindbergh31
I think MAB was expected as a possible option this season. Injuries happen. When it came down to it, I imagine the expectation was that a prospect, likely Gustaffson, would earn the role by the time playoffs came. Having Lilja around serves not only a contingency if nobody earns the spot, but as a better 7th D option than getting a Nick Boynton if they do. |

I am advocating that the flyers move up in the draft and pick Griffin Reinhart. I have seen him go from 6 on Bob M's list to 12th.
He has an NHL size body already and from what I have seen scouts say is he has a great shot, mobile for a big guy, good on ice vision and he wants to be the next Shea Weber..

Yep. Once Lilja went down with the high ankle sprain, coupled with Pronger's situation the depth was going to be tested. Now with Meszaros injured looks like Lilja will play at least tomorrow night. |

If someone has the opinion that Lilja didn't warrant a second year, it's their opinion and has just as much credibility as the opposing point of view.
Holy (frank)ing christ, every day it's pick the poop out of every (frank)ing post. (frank)ing pathetic.
Because the Flyers wanted Lilja for two years doesn't make it right. They also signed Shelley to a 3yr deal and Leighton to be the starting goalie, as well as taking on a dead contract in Matt Walker. All those moves were the right ones too. - PLindbergh31

Have to think that defense will be addressed at the draft. I have seen mocks that have as many as 15 dmen going in the first round. I'm not familiar with this kid, but I like big dmen with a hard shot. |

Homer did seem to have Gus figured into the top-7, but remember that Walker started the year on the big club instead, so it was hard to tell what the plan was. MAB kind of came out of left-field -- I think Homer admitted that he had more or less given up on him as a viable prospect. MAB only got the call because he was one of the few waiver-exempt d-men on the Phantoms that had extensive professional experience. |

How funny would it be if they had to take the best available player and it was Vasilevski? Three Russian goalies ftw. |

He visited a team practice last week, he still has bad days from reports, and hasn't really improved much at all symptom wise. A very sad situation. I just hope he is able to feel well enough to live a healthy life. |

I saw that kid play during the World Juniors. Was very impressed with him. I believe he was only 17, at the time (might be 18 now). I know the general rule of thumb is to take the best available player, but I can't see the Flyers taking another Russian goalie. Is Vasilevski considered to have a higher ceiling than Malcolm Subban? |

They're more or less equal -- Vasilevski probably only gets the nod because of his int'l experience. |

I cannot see him playing again. It is a sad situation. I may have a strong dislike for you guys over there, even more since you gave us Leino BUT, you never want to see anything like that. It goes farther than hockey. |
