What happened to Harry Z? I thought he fit Lavy's 4th line very well with his speed and aggressive forechecking. - bradleyc4
Got to wonder if Harry ticked off Laviolette somehow during or after that Preds game, because he's been persona non grata since. |

The Flyers are going to have to make a tough decision, if they don't want to pay Carle $5 million there will be teams that will.
If the Flyers were talking to the Sabres I wouldn't mind if they asked about Marc-Andre Gragnani . - Buts16
Will be interesting to see if Holmger goes out and acquires a defenseman, if it's a rental or not.
Acquiring a guy under contract for next season could give him some leverage (or at least a fall-back plan) if he can't come to terms with Carle. |

odd, I like the HarryZ.
Lava must have zero faith in Shelley, I guess dressing Tito and Shelley is just too much of the same. - Buts16
Unless my math is off, with Rinaldo being suspended, and Voracek being injured, Couturier's wingers tonight will be Sestito and Cement Head.
And if Meszaros can't play 3 of the 6 on the blueline will be MAB, Gusty, and Lilja.
What a trainwreck. |

Math isn't off. Bryz might want his flu to come back so he doesn't have to play tonight. |

Seriously. Well at least Buffalo is an awful team, would suck to be this shorthanded against a good team. |

I think I remember him going down the other day during the game and thinking.. poop there goes another d-man.. but he returned and played the rest of the way. I wonder if they are the same issue. |

*Jody Shelley has a top speed just north of that of a hoveround. |

He is 4th on the Kings in points, 1 behind Dustin Brown with 8 games less played. So lets say he is 3rd on the Kings if he had a full season played. Justin Williams is second in points on the team with 10 more than Richards.
Two things to consider:
1) New team with new philosophy.
2) Lowest scoring team in the league.
By your reasoning, Scott Hartnell is just as good of a player as Anze Kopitar because they each have 50 points.
Imagine Kopitar on the Flyers; he'd be outscoring everyone with an offense like that (2nd in goals for).
Wayne Simmonds is averaging .61 points per game this year. Even in his best season with LA 2 years ago, he averaged .51 ppg, while the other 2 years were at .29 and .28 ppg. He didn't suddenly become better, LA's offense just sucks.
It's easy to say things like that without actually determining why. - StayTunedMTC
it can also go to say Simmonds is another year older and improving. But of course he is getting PP time here where I am assuming he didn't in LA

Bill, what about adding Greg Zannon for depth, I can't see him costing a ton and he is physical and blocks a ton of shots.
I was also thinking it might be wise to stay away from the Grossman and Gill types. They make so many bad choices with the puck.
What would the cost be for Gaustad and Leopold. Sabres wasted a ton of cash this season and will miss the playoffs. I would think they would like to clear Leopolds 3 million next season. He could be a nice replacement for Carle. I can't see the Flyers paying 5 mill plus for Carle. - bhigh21
Honestly, I don't see Zanon as much of an upgrade on Lilja. Not a huge fan.
Hard to say what the cost would be for Gaustad or Leopold. I consider Carle a better two-way player, than Leopold, plus he's younger. JL would contribute on the power play, however. Gaustad is a player whom I think the Flyers could use for his size.

I think Harry Z is in the doghouse due to his lazy backcheck in the game against Nashville. Suter's goal in the third period that made the game 2-1, Harry Z was late getting back. IIRC, he didn't get another shift after that and has been banished ever since. |

Shelley will play tonight. Don't forget that Rinaldo has to serve his suspension. Without Voracek or Rinaldo, Flyers are short two forwards. That puts Wellwood and Shelley in for tonight. JVR is still apparently at least a week away.

It was reported he had contact yesterday, I guess that's a good sign for a return, or at least some degree of progress. |

No, didn't hit a nerve. Just bored at 5:30 in the morning and my fingers keep moving. I'm not usually a novelist my bad.
Players do get better, I understand that. But having NHL Center Ice (and staying at a Holiday Inn Express), I've watched quite a few Flyers games and Simmonds is doing what he did on the Kings and what we all loved him for.
My main point was about Richards though. It is not as if he suddenly regressed and sucks now. He is just on a team that happens to be the worst offensive team in the NHL and playing a different style of hockey that he is used to, even though he was a good 2 way player to begin with. Plus playing on an ever revolving line doesn't help.
My main thing about what you're saying is your guys are outproducing the counterparts. While on the surface that is true, you've got to look at the surface to figure out why. If either Carter or Richards was on Vancouver, Detroit, or Boston, odds are their numbers will be higher than most players on the Flyers. Does that make the trade bad then? See where I'm getting at? - StayTunedMTC
Keep making excuses for Captain Morgan then.... |

Bill- Do you find it odd that JVR is practicing, and receiving contact, while still reporting symptoms, and being in a "fog". If he isn't symptom free he shouldn't be practicing I would think.
It seems to me that JVR likely suffered that concussion in the home game against Ottawa, and subsequently played the next 3 games with the concussion. That slows the recovery process. As we have seen with Briere, and Read, they were diagnosed immediately and returned to the lineup quickly. |
