If Kane comes to Buffalo he plays center for sure. On this team, a guy with that kind of skill, I want him playing center. Chicago has Toews and Sharp to put out there in front of him or else they might consider it too. Who do we have to put infront of him in Buffalo? Vanek Kane Pominville line would be scary.
But this will never happen, so what a waste of typing. - puttinonthefoil
not that this really matters a whole lot... but I tried Kane at center in Buffalo between Vanek and Pominville in NHL 12.. and Kane sucked at center.. too small.. pushed around... he has a horrible faceoff score... |

sure did fleece boston with the Kessel trade - snowstorm077
While Seguin is certainly going to be an excellent player. Kessel is top 5 in league scoring...3rd over all in goals and looks like Kessel could one day reach 50 goal plateau...so that argument is starting to be moot.
Now show me where Burke didn't 'fleece' his counterparts in previous dealings:
1. Kaberle for Colborne + 1st and 2nd
2. White, Stajan, Hagman + Pucks for Phaneuf and Aulie
3. Beauchemin for Gardiner and Lupul
4. Brett Lebda and F Robert Slaney for Lombardi and Franson
5. Toskala + Blake for Giguere
Your move... |

I don't see as many games as I should to judge them as a team but on paper I like the defense, the offense needs an entire revamping. keeping only a few of those players (Vanek, Roy, Pominville, not really high on Stafford) and trade the young players, a package would get GM's attention for a #1 center - mckeenml
Stafford is a bum, he shows what he can do when he actually tries last year, gets his big contract, and then falls back into his lazy and mediocre play this year. The forwards I really want to keep are Vanek, Pommer, Ennis, Gerbe, and Goose. Anyone else can be traded and I wouldn't care. Unfortunately, the guys I listed are the only forwards (except for maybe Roy) that would bring value back. |

Detroit is the only place I can see Miller actually wanting to play..
Miller has said numerous times that he does not want to leave Buffalo and that he would rather die with a "sabre" (the sword) in his chest than be traded..
Kane for Roy+ maybe... but Miller is not leaving the blue and gold - MillerTime3011
Come on now, how can you be objective when your user name contains Miller and your avatar is a picture of Miller?
Objectively, this is the type of move Pegula wouldpull the trigger on himself if it was there. Pegula idolizes the Detroit model of Skilled Offense, Solid Defense and Average Cost effective goaltending.
Miller and Roy for Crawford and Kane is a no brainer. You don't drop that kind of coin on you goalies anymore in this league. Move Goose and Boyes at the deadline for some picks have Staff get his best buddy to sign in the offseason and win some games next year 5-4 instead of losing them 2-0. |

I personally would like to see Kassian at center in the future... he was centering Vanek and Pommer earlier this year.. but they were so bad I didn't watch the games that closely/often back then..
But I agree that I think the whole converting players is not the Sabres fortay.. especially in the middle of the season... |

Hey Ek!
First of all - you're the man. Rumors are rumors for a reason.
Second - just a quick question about the Caps: Have they at all made a serious, high-profile bid on Nash? Carter? With Semin, possibly Neuvirth, Eakin, Galiev, Two first rd picks, and Nash's former junior coach, would the Blue Jackets and Nash listen to something like that? Would Carter?
Just wondering! Thanks and keep up the good work! - e_ray
as opposed to a low-profile bid for nash? |

So does Kaberle, I guess Boston won that trade regardless of whether Colborne becomes a superstar or not for the next 15 years.

Vanek and Pommer do it without the help of a center most of the time. I went to the Devils game and It was Vanek and Pommer passing to each other while Roy skated around uselessly as usual. Put Kane out there with those guys and that's a lot of offense. |

So here is the issue: We need to send some salary back or we are screwed (just stating the obvious). Let's build up the Nash Trade situation here.
Komi won't go back (NMC that DEFINATELY is NOT waived to go to CLB)
Lombo won't go back (Uninsurable and CLB cannot afford the risk)
There is no way that Burke trades Grabo for Salary, so the only way he goes is bcause he is an integral part of the deal, not a throw in.
So that leaves Connolly or Armstrong.
If Grabovski is part of the deal (which I assume he would have to be) Connolly needs to stay as the 2nd line centre. So he won't be included. I guess that leaves Armstrong.
Personally I am OK with this, as he has been injury prone and hasn't regained his form really. Considering the $3.0 cap hit, he is expendable if need be.
So that starts the deal with Grabo + Army.
They'll need the piece on defence, so let's throw Schenn in there, as I'm sure they will ask for him.
So the question is what is left for Nash? We have $9.5M going back, which more than covers Nash's Salary, but I would assume that CBJ is going to want sme salary coming back for a UFA in order to cover this. This would indicate either Huselius or Pahlsson on their way to Toronto. Burke has a History with Pahlsson, and considering he is a Centre, I could see them targetting him as Grabo's replacement for the rest of the year, releasing him at the end, and replacing his roster spot with Colborne next year.
So we have:
Grabo (2.9) + Schenn (3.6) + Army (3.0) for Nash (7.8) + Pahlsson (2.65)
We are still missing a piece or two on the Leafs. CLB needs goaltending, but there is no way they target Reimer or Gusty as Burke values them too much for what they CURRENTLY bring. So they will need to look to dealCarter for a goalie with some other team.
So lets throw in our 1st this year. Seems logical with the Jackets looking for a rebuild, but being in the 15th overall are is not too highly valued, so we need another piece.
I cannot see Kadri or Kuli being added as the last piece if we already gave up our first (Burke wouldn't do it, I have a feeling). So unless we dropped the pick back to a 2nd and added one of those, we'd have to look at something else.
My guess? One of Holzer or Blacker. Cheap prospects with some nice potential.
So the two possibilites as I see it are:
1) Grabo + Schenn + Army + Blacker/Holzer + 2012 1st for Nash + Pahlsson
or
2) Grabo + Schenn + Army + Kadri/Kuli + 2012 2nd for Nash + Pahlsson
Personally I see #1 as the more likely option that Burke would go with.
Problem is that there are other teams involved, and I think that it would take Kadri/Kuli and a 1st (rather than a 2nd) to land Nash.
I think this is too much. Are there any Leaf fans that actually would still do it? - mfreedman
McKenzie said that Gardiner would be the D they ask for not Schenn |
