It's the fans and medias fault. |

I find the Saturday afternoon crowds to be the least knowledgeable. A lot of businesses don't use their seats on the weekend and sell them or give them to guys with families. They have no idea what's going on. Freak out at every offside call (because they don't know what offside is, or because they don't realize the guys without the orange arm band are not calling a penalty.)
That goes against the whole idea that regularly all the fans in the lower bowl are clueless suits. So if you wear a suit to work, you don't know hockey? Not true of the regulars in my section. Yes, there are people in the building who are clueless and they are as likely to be wearing a jersey as a tie. - bodiva88
Too much is being made about the fans and media. They have zero to do with how the team performs. There could be 20k chimps in the stands slinging poop at one another, it doesn't account for the losing home record over the course of the last 50+ games. |

The fans and media feed the issue though. The root of it is that he needs to play better, absolutely.
My question is, does the booing help anybody? Even if the booing doesn't cause him to allow a weak goal, does it help matters? Does it help for the guy to get booed worse than the opposing players on home ice? Does it help for everyone on the team to have to hear him get booed incessantly?
Does it help for the media to continually distract the players, coaches and management with non stop questions and criticisms? Does it do any good for Holmgren to have to answer questions from reporters that don't know what a "no movement clause" is or if a player is waiver exempt?
If you feel the need to boo, boo all you want. It's your right. It's my right to call you an idiot if you boo a guy after a shutout, and it's my right to say somebody that happily admits that he'll kick a guy when he's down and kiss him when he's up as a frontrunning, bandwagon piece of poop. |

Personally I don't boo anyone. Just don't see the need to, I understand why fans do it to voice their displeasure. Does it help? Probably not, but it shouldn't hurt.
Fans are paying to be entertained. It's not all that different to going out to dinner. If the service is bad, and the food is cold, should the consumer just sit on his or her hands, or should they voice their concerns to the attention of the waiter? Fans don't have access to speak their gripes with Holmgren, or Laviolette, or the players, so their only recourse is to either stop going to the games, or booing if they are unhappy. |

If it was just booing, it probably wouldn't. But when a guy feels the need to take to twitter to defend his teammate from bumhole fans, then it is an issue affecting more than the guy being booed.
Now, every postgame interview or even non game day interview, the players, coaches and GM have to face the questions...day after day, so it becomes a distraction. |

It bugged me that JVR had to take to twitter to damage control an interview response in which he defended Bryzgalov. Like, really? Players have to be wary about defending a Seravalling teamate? |

The fans that boo when there is a shutout, do not exist here.
At the same time, I am a fan of the logo. What the team stands for. Thats why I became a fan in the first place, watch any game I can. To be a Flyer. To me means to play hard, physical, lunchpail hockey. A team that stands up for itself and eachother. May not be the most talented, but is hard working. That to me, is what being a Philadelphia Flyer is about.
To admit that I will blast a guy when to me he isn't representing the logo as best he could, I will do it every day. I'm one of the old school.. Tough love.
Im a fan of the logo and what it stands for first and foremost. How the players represent it, determines what I think of them. |

I don't have the answers on what to do with the media. I tune them out, as should other fans. If we don't like what their agendas are, simply stop subscribing to their articles, twitter, etc... As for the players and coaches it's part of their job to deal with the media, as the NHL deems it mandatory. The fact Philadelphia has a bunch of clowns to deal with makes it an annoyance, but part of their job descriptions none the less. |

Personally, I liked that Giroux and JVR backed their goaltenders postgame. The goalies didn't earn any degree of praise on Saturday, don't get me wrong, but I like to see two young building blocks of the franchise stepping up, speaking for the team, and showing solidarity. It's a gesture lost on many fans, unfortunately. |

Uh, the fans that boo the shutout most certainly do exist here. Reread the thread and see the comments.
I'm a fan of the logo too. I'm also frustrated in the goaltending and defense. Rather than simply shred it, or use "tough love" I'd rather be optimistic, because I know that every player on the ice can and has played better, and likely will play better in the future.
Hell, look at Bryzgalov. In 2008-09, he posted a 2.98 GAA and a .906 save %. The next season he was a Vezina finalist. That's why I have faith that he will get himself sorted out. The fact that he wears the logo means I support him. |

To be fair, we can only unsubscribe from the media so much. Short of not watching the team at all, we're still going to have to tune into CSN or WIP for the actual broadcasts of the game, with whatever dressings are added. |

I guess it's a gesture lost on Kimmo Timonen in addition to the fans. |

Outside of simply stonewalling them, there probably isn't an answer. |

Watching the games and leaving it at that isn't feeding into the lazy journalism of the 3 headed clown that covers the team. |

Exactly. So since it's not going to change barring the news outlets changing their personnel, no sense in getting up in arms about it. |

I think Kimmo has considerably (and by considerably, I mean a whole humangous hell of a lot) more license for vocal frustration than the fans, what with being a hard working, exhausted co-worker of the goalies in question.
Anyways, did he say something about Giroux or JVR standing by their goaltenders being wrong? Or are you simply citing his "the goaltending" response? Because the difference between being frustrated with your goaltender and being displeased with another player supporting his teammate is enormous. |

I agree without you are saying. Timonen was frustrated with the goaltending, and made his feelings known. Same way the fans are frustrated and making their feelings known. |

The less "hits" they get would go a long way in helping that very thing happen.
Watching the games, reading Bill's daily blog, and discussing hockey with the good fans here is enough for me to get my fix. |

anyone else find it annoying when briere says getting the two new d guys is a wake-up call to the team, he never says he needs to be better...hes been very cocky this year in interviews, someone needs to ask him why he makes 7 mil and only has 13 goals and 20 assists for 33 points in 50 games which is good enough for a 3rd liner making 3mil a year |

Briere would just point to his playoff stats, as well as bringing up the fact Gomez has two goals in a Calendar year, and Drury is off coaching Little League baseball.
Seriously though, he's had a down regualar season. hes missed games due to injuries. Briere makes his money in the playoffs. Sure he hasn't lived up to his cap hit this year, but he's on pace for about 45 points. So there has been some production. |
