In order for the Flyers to have a legit shot of making some noise in the playoffs two things have to happen. The PK must improve dramatically, as well as the goaltending.
These are major issues obviously, but can be rectified rather easily. Stop taking so many undisciplined penalties, and start making the routine saves. Those two things would go a long way in improving both areas of concern. - PLindbergh31
i'll give the pk a pass yesterday since kubina and grossman are new but next game if i dont' see an improvement i'm flipping poop |

If goaltending improves, then the pk will as well. It's not all his fault, but your best pker must be your goalie. Go Bryz. |

I disagree. It's Bryz or nothing. He is struggling, but part of it is the system the FLyers play. Part of it is not having those crease clearing D-men until now. And part of it is mental... Hopefully if Lavi address number 1, and number 2 being addressed already... Number 3 will address itself... - RooNosHockey
What system do the Flyers play? How should Lava fix it? Not trying to be confrontational, just curious.
Personally, I don't see No. 3 addressing itself. I think the team needs to bring in help for both Bryz and Bob. Maybe a guy like Ian Clark. Maybe somebody who specializes in sports psychology. Maybe both. |

Yes, a transition period working the new d-men into the PK has to be granted. Not sure I would have had both of them together out on the PK that quickly. |

full marks for making it this far, though. a lesser man would not have made it through childhood being called Ass Press. |

Agree in paragraph 1 completely.
But they also need the forwards to support the D, instead of heading up ice for the outlet pass. And on the PK, they just need to play better. Forwards are getting way out of position.
That should help the Goaltending not be so exposed, which should give Bryz some confidence, which hopefully should fix the soft goals... |

No question. As I mentioned last night, the goaltender essentially has to be your best penalty killer, obviously right now the Flyers goalies aren't capable of being that. So the solution at the moment is to take fewer penalties. |

The Flyers play an attack first system. The forwards are pressing so hard to move up ice, they leave the defensive zone before full puck control. They also forecheck so hard that often the defensive team can easily outlet pass for odd-man rushes. It's Lavi's system. He used it to win the cup in Carolina, but the forwards were slightly better defensively, and the goalie was a little more clutch.
I do think that if you cut down on the quality chances Bryz sees, and the goals go down, then he will get confident and the soft goals will stop... But it is just my opinion. |

The forwards have to be held accountable with the lack of PK success of late. Right now it's failing on every level. Not getting big saves from the goaltender, d-men losing their men down low, and forwards not supporting, blocking shots, getting in the passing lanes etc. It's a mess right now. |

I think this is KEY. We have guys trying to stick check on the PK instead of guys like Lappy, Betts, and Richards that layed out in front of shots. |

Well I don't see Lava changing that system much given the personnel we have. We're not Phoenix or Nashville in that we have to play an ultra conservative game. There should be no issues with an "attacking" style of play as long as the forwards are responsible and not all down below the hash marks unless we have the puck to the crease.
It's not the quality chances that Bryz has struggled with. He's actually made some great saves on some quality chances. It's the somewhat routine stops that he's struggled with. No amount of team D or systems play can cover for those. |

Since its being reported we are out of it, we will probably end up with him lol. Columbus should look into a 3 way deal, they may get more that way than trying to clean out one team's assets. |
