Give me a break. Bobby Orr is the greatest player of all time at any position. Wayne Gretzky is the only other person even in the debate. Nick Lidstrom is a fine player, but he isn't even close to Orr.

Gretzky only has great numbers because he played for so long. I mean almost 1500 games your bound to have almost 2900 points.

Does Enroth really have 80 shutouts?

I'd give Orr the slight edge because he modeled a puck-moving/scoring dman, but you are pretty much dead on.
Players today are much faster and generally in much better physical shape than they were in the 70's. I remember getting by the guards and standing near the locker rooms at the Aud and seeing players smoke cigarettes between periods.

What made Orr unique was his friggin' blazing speed & puck movement.

The game was played much tougher back then and they skated with three lines...not four....So your much faster and better shape thing doesn't hold much water. Can you imagine Orr with carbon fiber boots and tuuk blades, with a carbon fiber stick with a big banana on it? Rather than old four pound leather boots with metal blades and a dead straight wooden Sher-wood .
