I like Ott's grit but this team already has a 2nd line Center that is not producing. Ott is also getting paid more than he's worth IMO.
He's a 3rd liner and 3rd liners should not be making almost $3M. - Pairo11

I'm of the opinion that shoot out wins do not tell you who is the better team. It's an exhibition and counting SO wins as wins is garbage. Here are the standings:
1. Rags - 81 pts
2. Bruins - 72 pts
3. Panthers - 65 pts
4. Devils - 74 pts
5. Flyers - 73 pts
6. Pens - 73 pts
7. Sens - 70 pts
8. Leafs - 65 pts
9. Jets - 65 pts
10. Caps - 63 pts
11. TBL - 60 pts
12. Sabres - 59 pts
13. Isles - 58 pts
14. Habs - 58 pts
15. Canes - 57 pts
Take the shoot out wins away and count them as ties. The new rankings are:
1. Rags - 78
2. Bruins - 65
3. Panthers - 62
4. Flyers - 72
5. Pens - 66
6. Sens - 65 pts
7. Devils - 64 pts
8. Caps - 62 pts
9. Leafs - 62 pts
10. Jets - 61 pts
11. TBL - 58 pts
12. Canes - 57 pts
13. Habs - 55 pts
14. Isles 54 pts
15. Sabres - 54 pts
Isles 2-1-1 record gives them the tie breaker over us. Caps get the tie break over the Leafs with 2 more regulation wins. Devils drop from 4th to 7th, which better reflects their true talent.
The point is... we aren't very good. There is a chance that we can still make the playoffs, but everyone knows that if we do, we aren't winning the cup. I can't believe that we aren't blatantly selling. Supply is low, so costs are high. It seems obvious that Darcy should be cashing in. Sell, sell, sell... - keptupl8

Between Leino, Boyes, and Stafford they have 17 goals for an average of 740k/goal. That in a nutshell is the Sabres season. - Gunner Staal

I would love to see the NHL dump the shootout. It was a nice novelty for a while. It is like deciding baseball games with a homerun contest.

Or using an exhibition to determine where game 7 of the world series is played... that wouldn't happen. |

Nice work on this Kept !
Agree completely. An astute GM or manager of any business uses assets. Even as kids I knew enough to mortgate my properties when I played Monopoly if I couldn't build houses/hotels !!
Look at Yzerman. They're in FRONT of Buffalo but he decided days ago that in order to make his team better in the long run he had to make moves immediately in order to capitalize on the value of the asset. He's got a Stamkos, Lacavalier, St. Louis, etc. and he's STILL not willing to take a kick at the Cup because he knows his team. He KNOWS they don't stand a chance. |

Change the free point for making it there. Teams play too conservative in the third knowing if they get to OT or beyond ,they get a point |

I think a guy like Ott has good value at that cap hit. Problem the Sabres have right now are paying their 4th liners like McCormick over a million and a tweener like Gaustad over 2M. Doesn't help Boyes is a glorified 4th liner, but he is gone anyways.
Sabres don't get the best value in their bottom 6, which hurts what they can spend on the top 6. Now with the Leino deal they will have to get some better value contracts after Boyes, Hecht, and Gaustad leave. None of it matters until Darcy is gone though. He inked bad value contracts pre and post Pegula. |

yup..
maybe we'll start with this: matt ellis, like adam mair before him, should never, under any circumstances, skate in the top-six or be on the ice with less than five minutes remaining and the team trailing |

One of the BIGGEST problems with the Sabre's. They pay their 3rd/4th line too much money and get zero production and they don't get enough production from their top 6. |

True. In my opinion, the Sabres need to get someone who can lead the team and can consistently score. Pominville's a great player, but not a good captain. We need two very productive lines. |
|
|
|
I agree...a team heading to the playoffs could use Roy....what if they got a 2nd or 3rd line center with an expiring contract...Roy slips in for next year....what if they need speed?? what if the power play needs some work??
I can see a LOT of easy sale signs to hang on #9's neck... - Ripped Fuel
Roy is the best value in the NHL. Why would the Sabres move him? He is a known productive quantity, for a very low price tag. |

They've dropped "assets" yet they seem to be playing better. No reason to think that we can't drop some expiring deals and still make the playoffs, if that's the only goal for this year. Our chances wouldn't be that much lower than they already are. (BTW - 1.3%, up from 0.8% yesterday.) |
