It's not denial, it just the facts. I want him off the team, but who is going to fill that 60-70 point void at 4 mill or less? - Full Throttle
Who cares in the short term. You need to rebuild, specifically the forward position.
Take a few steps back to take multiple steps forward. |

Will he ever get back to that 60-70 point ? There are a lot of players in the league that tend to stay in the so called Bad year for the rest of their career. That's when the sabres sign them |

He is typically a 70 point guy. If you get rid of him now (with a bad year) you are selling low. Not good business. - Full Throttle
He's broke 70 twice...
Before this season he scored .81 ppg. Factor in this "bad year" and his scoring plummets to... wait for it... .79 ppg.
He's having a bad year on a very bad team. There aren't going to be very many talented centers available over the next week. The demand is very high, the supply is low, which makes the value higher. It's a great time to sell. Smart business actually. |

Well, there is a little truth in that. No sense in paying a goalie that much if he has to backstop a team built like buffalo currently is.
Not his fault but it's not a good situation for any goalie. - Gunner Staal
I think he was more going for the fact that without Miller we would be fighting the Blue Jackets for last place this season |

why such a convienent sample size. They have had success with and without him. He still produces and he is a bargin. It doesn't make sense from a team standpoint to get rid of a productive center leaving the organization even weaker at that position. There is not a realistic scenrio that nets a better center in return. - Full Throttle
Roy and Sekera for Stastny.
That's one.
Look, I'm not going to argue that Roy hasn't been productive for his entire career and hasn't been worth his contract overall but let's face it. It's time to move him. He plays small, takes dumb penalties, disappears in the playoffs and I believe he is not the most well liked guy in the locker room.
As long as another 'quality' Center is brought back for him I have ZERO problem with moving him. |

Post Driere, you don't sign the Hecht deal. You get Pommer to under $5 mil per. You long term Soupy long before the trade deadline. You don't give a winger $4.5 mil long term to take a shot at playing center. At the 2009 deadline, you cash in your Tim Connolly chip. Lalime retires 2-3 years ago. Raffi Torres' fat ass never dons the blue and gold... etc, etc, etc.
That's on the GM, not the goalie. - keptupl8

Teh Sabres have a problem attracting goodcenters here. What do you want draft picks that might turn into a productive center, Like Roy?

Make no mistake .
Miller , Roy ,Goose , Leo and Sekera can all bring back something very beneficial to this franchise. and all in different ways.
If Goose does get dealt , expect a team out West to over pay for him. There is a bidding war going on over Goose as we speak that Darcy will pull the trigger on but he wait it out till the final hours when he really has a team so despearate to attain him that he has them over the coals.
And I am not the only one that feels this way but I firmly believe that Goose does come back here for 3 mill per in the offseason. Thats a win win for Darcy !
Roy , if a team wants Roy, they will have to step up large and I am sure somebody like Washington or even Calgary will be willing. Either that or I say Roy goes nowhere !
Chicago is the team that I see overpaying for either Leopold and or Sekera and perhaps packaging Gragnani in with one of the above mentioned to Chicago.
Chicago and even Kane has come out and said that they sorely miss a puck moving dman the likes of Soupy.
Miller, the sky is the limit for this guy.
You have to know that the Flyers and yes even Burke has been sniffing around Darcy's office to find out the availability of one Ryan Miller.
Other teams in play for Ryan are Chicago, Dallas ,Colorado and I still believe LA with possibly a swap for Quick or Bernier or perhaps even Anaheim is a dark house swapping out Hiller for Miller with some fringes.
One thing for sure, Darcy is a busy man right now and this is the deadline and offseason that makes or breaks this guy . The opportunities are endless right now to make this a better hockey club. Lets see what he is made of !

Back end has promise with Myers and McNabb growing as players. As forward unit gets better so will Ehrhoff's impact on team. He isn't as great as Jeremy White makes him out to be but he is a good player for the role he is supposed to play. Unfortunately for him/Sabres the forward group is not a good match as it presently sits. |

2011- Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Jonathan Hberdeau, Ryan Strome, Mika Zibanejad, Mark Scheifele, Sean Couturier... 6 of the top 8 picks were centers.
2010- Seguin, Skinner
2009- Tavares, Duchene, E. Kane, B. Schenn
2008- Stamkos, Bailey, Hodgson, Eberle... Ennis (26 overall)
Teams draft centers and hang on to them. The only other way to get good ones is signing UFA's. There are less and less centers available on July 1st every year. Does Roy produce? Sure. Who cares? If you want to stay the same, we can just resign the team we have. Give them 3 or 4 more years to figure everything out...
Or, you can trade Roy and get a player and a pick in return. Stockpile picks and prospects and package them to move up in the draft. Change the team. Make it better. |

I was just giving a 'for instance'. On a side, it was documented last year (Stastny's father was quoted) that Stastny was not entirely happy in Colorado. With yesterdays move maybe he'll be less happy today. IMO Downie is less valuable than Quincey..
Also remember that Roy has a year left on his deal. He doesn't have to be dealt at the deadline. GM's tweak their rosters more in the Summer/offseason. |
