Trying to keep Hemsky and Brown would be a nightmare. Brown signed until 2014, if Hemsky signs a 2 year he'll be the same, that'll also be the summer to renegotiate with Nuge and a year after negotiating with Hall and Ebs. If we sign Brown, Hemsky is gone. |

You trade Hemsky - Reveen
As per Dreger..."A quality young d-man and solid secondary scorer part of what might land Brown. He's worth it."
Hemsky will have to be part of the package, but I don't know who the Oilers will package as part of the young d-man. It's decision day for Hemsky. Oilers expecting a call from Hemsky himself whether he wants to stay and resign or go. Heard 2 year, $5M per year...or I suggest 3 year, $4.5-4.75M per year...otherwise, time for Oilers GM to sit and wait for best offer. Instead of sit, go big, package big and grab Brown from LA if possible. Leafs are hot on Brown too. |

I am not so sure that adding 2 players, even with 1 being a goalie will help you come close to the Nucks. I mean Oil are Miles away from that as one day RNH,Hall and Eberle could be better than the Sedins and Kelser, but right now they aren't.
Columbus proved you cant just add 2 players and become drastically better ( granted this is a slightly flawed arguement)
Adding those 2 players though could give you a shot a 8th.
Edm is currently 15th in offense. So with P.K, a year to grow and maybe some luck with your teams players I could see that going up to 12th (lets not go to crazy here, there are still many teams much better than the oilers in all facets.)
The problem is that the Oil are 24th in goals allowed. I dont think P.K. and Harding are your answer for that. Defense is a 5 man effort and it will take a few years for your all star rookie players to get better in their own zone.
Even if we are extremely optimistic and say the oil improve to 11th best offense and 19th best D (which is fairly unlikely and a bit of a strech) I think they are only fighting for 8th and only make it with good special teams, more specifically a better PK.
So it could happen but I doubt that an average goalie and another Dman are going to make any drastic changes - Meeqsb
The Oilers special teams are much improved this year. Their PP is 4th in the league while the PK is 13th. The PK is miles ahead of where it was last year.
Edmonton has sort of flip flopped from the teams they've had in the last couple of seasons. Their special teams play used to be horrid. Bottom of the league in both categories. However, their 5 on 5 play was middle of the pack. This year the opposite is true. I think the problem has been a slightly unbalanced roster with a very weak bottom 6. The difference in the last 2 games is the way the lines are structured. It also illustrates the importance of re-signing Ales Hemsky.
Moving Hall away from Eberle and Gagner has created 2 very dangerous lines. Opposing teams can't just focus on putting their best defenders out against the kids. When the Nuge gets back it gives the Oilers even more depth to play with.
Depth is the big difference between the Oilers and Canucks. Goaltending is significant as well but the D looks to be rounding into shape with the emergence of Petry, Gilbert and Smid. If Whitney can stay healthy (Big IF), that give the Oilers a pretty decent top 4. They could still use another shutdown type of d-man but they have guys who can make that first pass to spring the kids.
This team is closer to exploding than people might think. Tambellini needs to keep Hemsky and a few tweaks at the draft and off-season and they will be dangerous next year.

Oilers organization has too much class to go after a maggot like Soupcan. I hope the kid is traded to the Flames where he'll suffer a 5+ year rebuild. |

Hemsky and Teubert - freelancer
With Sutton on roster for one more year, Peckham and Barker likely traded or let go, I think I rather keep Teubert. Not sure would Oilers be open to letting some of the other prospect take a jump yet. From what I understand, they are still at least one season away from NHL level.
LA likes Schenn, so Brown may just end up going to TOR. I would even consider offering Hemsky, Peckham, Barker, 3rd round pick (their own pick from Penner trade...conditional to ANA 2nd round pick if Hemsky resigns in LA) for Brown. Maybe it's an overpayment, but if analyst says Brown is worth it, EDM should take a risk. To me, that isn't much of a sacrifice of the future for Brown. |

in what world would hemsky sign for 2 years? 1 MAYBE if he feels his market value is low right now. otherwise, he wants a long term deal |

That is an asinine overpayment. Even Gilbert for Brown is a stretch and it can only happen if a guy like Methot has already been traded for. |

Peckham, who could fetch a 6th
a UFA
a 3rd
and a 2nd the conditions of which I dont know, forgive me
Essentially this boils down to... 2 nds and a 3rd? |

No way does Oil management resign Hemsky for more than 3, if he won't take it we trade him. In some magical world if we end up keeping Hemsky and acquire Brown it would be very difficult to try and keep all of them under the cap. Stop trollin. |

1) This is a troll blog
2) how am I trolling by saying Hemsky will either sign for 1 year to boost value or sign a long term deal? |

Saying Hemsky will take a 1 year deal is way more ridiculous than suggesting a 2-3 |

Congrats, you can write names. Hemsky either wants out of Edmonton or wants to stay. I'd bet my (frank)ing mortgage Hemsky doesn't take a one year |
