Ilya Bryzgalov did his part last night, coming up with numerous tough stops among the 28 saves he made. While Jordan Eberle's deep-slot goal off a Braydon Coburn turnover (the puck went off Matt Read's directly to Eberle) was potentially stoppable, it was a good shot by a talented player.
Not to pick nits, but it was Briere (along the boards) to whom Coburn attempted that pass, and the skate was his.
And yes, Bryzgalov was fine last night. |

See my post to brad.. i think a big reason he ends up fighting pucks is that he cant get a good look at the puck. I thought he was aggressive last night and did what he needed to do to get a win. The team didnt follow suit. - jak521
jak, he can't track the puck at times. the pucks pop up in the air and he doesn't know where they are going. that's on him, not his teammates. I thought he took a step forward, but I am not going to artificially lower my expectations for any NHL goalie. |

A quality young d-man and solid secondary scorer part of what might land Brown. He's worth it. #TradeCentre

I was at the game last night and I have to disagree with Bill on Bryzgalov's performance, he did not look especially good and I was gasping at some of the routine saves he did not make routine. He should have stopped Taylor Hall's goal for sure, he did not follow the puck off the boards very well and should have been on that side of the net not allowing any room for Hall to shoot.
I just noticed Briere's inability to win a face off in the replies as well and was going to comment on that as every draw he took he lost cleanly which is somewhat disheartening.

If they're asking for a solid young D man and a secondary scorer(as Dreager is reporting) I don't think it's a move the Flyers can make. TBH I think Nashville should be all over that tho. |

I saw a few of those as well last night. Do you think he may be having trouble judging the black puck against the new black glove? Any goalies on this board ever use a black glove before? |

I don't think so. When they say solid I think they mean someone playing top 4 defense. For us I think that would mean a deal along the lines of Carle/Voracek. |

Coburn/Timonen pairing has been awful of late. Coburn has been making bonehead plays and Kimmo just looks like he's out of gas. - phi1671 |

yea but the reason they are shopping him is for salary cap reasons so in that deal they would be taking back more salary |

They still have $2.7mm in cap room to add pieces in the near future(i.e. deadline).
The key may well be to be able to resign Quick and recoup some draft picks. |

Im not "artificially lowering" my expectations of Bryz. I think that over the better part of a month he has been very strong.. He has let in a few weak ones still, but he hasnt been terrible. A lot of times tracking the puck is a matter of getting in a position to see the puck.. and I feel as though he did that. Typically when a goalie struggles to control rebounds it is because he is late to react.. which is normally what happens when they struggle to track the puck. My point was that the defense did a lot of standing around in front of the net last night. Either get there and block a shot, or GTFO of the goalies way. Clear the net. |

Yeah, I just don't think we have the pieces then. They'll get offered a much better D man than Gus methinks. Voracek might be the best forward offer they get tho. |

debatable whether the eberle goal was weak, but even still, some big saves and just one soft goal is absolutely a building-block effort at this point.
you could see the flyers were in trouble the first shift of the second period. after they completely carried the play in the first, they disappeared. it was embarrassing to watch. if they worked even a little hard as a unit, they would have been able to generate chances against that club. - OrangeBlack27
It's perception. If someone wants to call it a building block, so be it. Whatever it takes to get him right. |
