I know the second goal is one people are saying he should have had, etc but I gotta tell you, if I ever have the puck in that area with that much time and space (the one defender stepped aside to cover the player to the left of Bryz as well as let him see the puck I suppose) I expect to score there. I didn't think it was soft to be honest.
- nastyflyergirl

I thought Bryz made alot of clutch saves in that game last night to keep his team in the game. Unfortunately the offense was no where to be found last night. The Flyers got outplayed all over the ice. Flyers had more shots but I thought the Oilers had more quality scoring chances and Bryz made some nice stops.

It's a shot that could have been stopped, but it wasn't one I would label a soft goal. Bryzgalov played well last night. His best game in a while. He was the Flyers best player last night, and was by no means the reason they lost the game. Anyone blaming him, either 1. has an agenda, or 2. is clueless.

I would say that's a small leap, yes. I'm not a fan of having an enforcer, but the guy brings enough hockey skill as a veteran presence to play small minutes on the fourth line. If he's in the lineup, it's a sign our top forwards have to step up and carry the play (and extra minutes).
- BulliesPhan87

He was a healthy scratch the last 10 games, Flyers were coming off a win in Winnipeg, (Laviolette generally keeps the same lineup in tact after a win barring injury) all of a sudden Shelley's Father is at the game, and Shelley plays for the first time in almost a month? Seems like more than coincidence to me. It's not the biggest deal in the world, but I mention it for the reason that I hope the coach isn't throwing players bones during a critical time in the season.

Well Couturier didn't play last night due to a LBI. There wasn't a reason given to why Rinaldo didn't play. So until I hear a reason why, I'm going to use logic to figure out why. They said during the broadcast Shelley's Father was in attendance, so it's jumping to conclusion for me to assume that's why Shelley played?

I dunno. That was written tongue in cheek.

Couldnt agree more. If it was JvR or Giroux or Jagr in that position and they got stoned everyone would be flipping poop saying its a shot they need to bury.

I would kill to get that type of time and space in that area of the ice.

This isn't just a little hiccup. It's a prolonged slump of inadequate play. The last 20 games have been brutal. That's 1/4 of a season.

Not liking where things are heading.

1) The Blue Jackets almost HAD to move Carter because things weren't going to get better with him being so unhappy and ill-matched to playing with Nash.

2) We'll see how well it works out to have Richards and Carter back together again. I would have to think that Richards had input on the move, and assured management it wouldn't create headaches. It's a very risky move for both sides, and Dean Lombardi will pay with his job (and may not be an NHL GM again for a long, long time) if this one backfires.

3) Strictly from a hockey standpoint, I think Carter will do just fine in LA if he stays healthy. For all the criticisms he's taken -- some fair, some unfair -- he is still capable of scoring goals in bunches when he gets hot.

4) Jack Johnson could very well compile a staggering minus rating the rest of this season and next season in Columbus.

- bmeltzer

i think perception is pretty amazing. everyone is talking about how carter's value was hurt because he's been such a bad solider in columbus, etc., but he's still scored 12 goals in his last 25 games while captain canada richards has 1 and a few assists in that same span and no one is saying anything about fatty and his complete lack of care/work ethic.

I wouldn't know. I don't pay attention to any of the fools in the Philly media. Anyone with basic hockey knowledge knows the goaltender played well last night. You have more than basic knowledge, not sure why you let clowns like Barkann, Cataldi, and the three headed clown who covers the team get you all worked up. You know what your eyes tell you.

agreed. obviously there has been a lot about Bryz's game this year that has warranted being frustrated, etc but it just irks me when people don't give him his props when he plays well but are more than happy to rip him to shreads otherwise

I simply can't buy into the assumption, I don't believe an NHL coach would extend such a courtesy for that reason when they need the win like the Flyers did. But you're right, it's really a non-issue. Either way, I don't think playing Shelley had an impact, or at least not a negative one.

I dont think it would change a thing... stitching a "C" on a guys left shoulder doesnt give him super powers or change the dynamic of anything.

I agree it didn't have a negative impact on the game. No question about that. Just found it curious that he played last night is all.

he didn't play wellwood with family in attendance against his brother so i doubt he plays players for any reason other than putting a lineup in that he thinks gives them a chance to win. perhaps there was something he didn't like in Rinaldo's last game. maybe he wanted Shelley and Wellwood in over Rinaldo because of the Edmonton lineup, etc.
