I love Hossa but...
He screwed the pooch not once, but twice on that first goal. Even after the first wiff on the steal attempt, Seabrook gained possession just to Crawford's right and put a pass right on Hossa's stick...unfortunately Hossa flubbed the pass and it went right to the point, and then the back of the net.
That play didn't lose the game, but it also did more damage than just what was reflected on the score board. It's called momentum, and it was lost at that point.
Again, not ragging on Big Hoss, I love his game. Last night he was an absolute beast...until that double gaffe that changed the direction of the game.
As for him scoring the lone Hawk goal...he tapped it in for sure, but that play was all Frolik. |

For your second question. Gravo v Roy. Hard to say. Gravo has one more year on his deal, Roy has two more years. Gravo is a bit cheaper. I think it depends on HOW fast you can develop the 2nd line center. Will Kruger be ready in another year? McNeill in two? If you're close then get Gravo and let him walk if he wants after next year. If you need a bit more time, Roy gives you two years. That's how I'd solve the equation.
Hawks should NOT be on Nash, a 7.8 million dollar cap hit? Hell not, that does not fit on this team. Move on. - kwolf68

Oh, so he's a UFA?
Then I go after Roy. No fan of rentals unless it's the FINAL piece of the puzzle, which in this case it would not be. |

Elklunds blog has the Preds moving for Roy.
I have heard Nashville has serious interest in Derek Roy
I would be bummed if the Preds got Roy and we didn't but I think the Hawks would prefer a D man. Not sure obviously but just thinking if Monty is out for the year? |

Not a good situation going forward...Hammer out again and Montador out with no time table for his return (could he been done for the year??). If so this suggests the Hawks will finish the year and into the playoffs (?) with 21 and 20 year old d-men.
Ummmm....that won't work!
It would seem the pressure to get a quality dman is quite high despite the regime's unwillingess to part with a #1 draft choice. And it was high before those 2 went down.
I think JJ is right the next 70 hours will say alot about this teams fortunes the rest of this year. 1 or no points this weekend with no trade pick-ups might ignite an occupy the UC protest!! |

I haven't looked at this next years draft class but the Hawks must be really keen on someone they think will be available at around the 25th pick. That's the only thing that makes sense. |

Has anyone heard anything more regarding Toews? (or any of the other injuries?) I know it's all hush hush but was wondering maybe if there were any whispers about the Toews and Monty situations. - Lido_Shuffle
The Tribune today said that Toews would miss the road trip with an Auto Body injury. |

I haven't been able to keep up with the warp speed posting the last few days. Every time I think of Stan these days it brings to mind a line from a Replacements song:
Do yourself a favor,
Get yourself a spine.
If he is a tight to the vest, safe player in the trade game, he will not get this team what it needs. If McD is happy with the illusion of effort as opposed to results, this franchise is doomed to a marketing caused mediocrity. |

The latest from Ek's rumor chart.
Strictly for entertainment purposes...
The Hawks to some varying degree of interest are "in" on:
Grabo, Zidlicky, Campoli, Burish Bernier, Bobrovski, Semin, Sanford, Niittymki, Boyes, and Hannan.
Any of those names do anything for anybody? |

I think Stan believes he is ok not making a big move. I look for campoli and some center who is way under the radar. Just a guess.
My wish list? Brassard, Allen, burish/ott and some serviceable nbr 5/6 physical dman |

I'm leaning towards SB doing nothing, and then talking up the kids as his reason for no acquisitions.
I also see the sellout streak coming to an end very soon.

A couple of those names give me gas. Semin? LMAO. WHY on earth would Semin be linked to Chicago? Although he DOES check the boxes. WINGER! SOFT! FLOATER!
Forget all the goalies!
Grabo, yea OK but not holding breath, pricey for rental.
Zidlicky. Snore.
Burish. YES, 4th line forechecker, PK guy
Boyes. Meh
Hannan. Not inspiring, but OK defensive d-man I suppose
The only one of that bunch I have ANY interest in is Burish to help with lower line depth, fore check, and PK.
The rest are not inspiring at all. |

Grabovski would be the one guy of interest, but not as a rental. Sign and trade?
Only deal for Grabo if it's for the long term.

If the hawks got a nbr 4 dman, then I'd be ok with campoli as the other D acquired. Would rather have a bigger guy tho. |

Maybe Bryan Allen. He's a big guy and can block some shots. There isn't much out there for D men. |
