Nobody's going to overpay for Nash. I wouldn't be surprised if he either ends up getting a decent return or waiting for summer. The uncertainty over the new CBA combined with that cap hit is hurting Howson right now.
If I was him, I'd be sticking to my guns, don;t trade Nash unless you get what you want. They can still move him at the draft, not like he's a FA - Jsaquella
Trying to figure out what Howson will do is very difficult at best. If you believe in JVR's ability, you can certainly justify his salary and ability as a centerpiece of a deal. If he becomes a 30-40 goal scorer playing consistently top 6 forward minutes, his salary is very acceptable.

I'm the last person the defend poor goaltending. But I'm also the last person to point a finger at someone else if I contributed to the problem.
Would I have expected Breeze to stop a shot like that? Absolutely. That's what he's paid to do. Are there going to be breakdowns in the D zone? Every team experiences them every game. Would I like my highest paid player on the team to step up and earn his paycheck at those times? Without a doubt.
But that's not the point.
For one player to attempt to deflect his share of the blame by exhibiting obvious displeasure toward another player is inexcusable and unprofessional. In this case, Breeze is an easy target because of the way he's been playing all year.
I'd like to believe Mezzy was showing displeasure in his own less that stellar coverage. - 77rams
We see this thing differently. Mezzy's eye rolling should not be the point of anything. It's more a commentary on how bad the goalie's been. If Bryz thought he was showing him up I hope he calls him on it or maybe the team leaders should call him out on it. Oops, I forgot that Kimmo kinda threw Moonbeam under the bus. Everything is secondary to the goalie's play and if Bryz was having a Marty Biron season, we wouldn't be having this discussion. There is mediocre goaltending and then there is Bryz flopping, waving at knucklers and kicking out room service rebounds. Eye rolling bothers you? If this keeps up Mezzy's head will be spinning like Linda Blair's. |

Mason had a great rookie year...history is littered with guys who were dominant rookies that never repeated that success.
Bryzgalov has had bad seasons before and bounced back strongly. Mason has never bounced back. There's no way in Hell I'd take Mason in any deal - Jsaquella
Ott got ben bishop for a 2nd rd pick. If he becomes as good as everybody predicted that is a steal. IMO |

IMO, JvR would be the centerpiece for a Nash deal...I just see no reason for the Flyers to do it. |

Would you make this trade:
JvR, Coburn, Bob for Nash and Mason?
I think it would take atleast this type of structure to make a trade with Columbus. |

You know what? Mezzy played like poop last night, so his eye rolling is immaterial to me. He missed a wide open net as time expired, and rolled his eyes then, too. |

I agree with you, but this team has always loved the idea of a superstar. Nash is a superstar with a very bad cap hit.

There's 4 or 5 Steve Otts. He's a good player, but he's a third line agitator. JvR has 30-40 goal potential. You don't trade that potential for a third liner with a big hit. |

You make trades like your GM. It's no wonder the Panthers have been garbage for years. Let's trade a former #2 overall pick for an agitator. Great call!!

Lindros, Eric + LeClair, John
Giroux, Claude + ?? - I'm not advocating the trade, I can see the logic behind it. Hartsy has been great and unless he really stinks next year, he will be resigned. Nash is on the level of LeClair as a goal scorer.

Its a no brainer. JvR has much more potential than Ott. Homer would be fired on the spot if he made that deal straight up. |

There is some kind of myth amongst a lot of people who think the Flyers are a very poor defensive club. Sure there have been breakdowns, turnovers, and blown coverages at times, but not more than most other teams.
Flyers are 7th in the NHL in shots allowed, that indicates they are pretty good at limiting the oppositions chances. How can a team be in the top of the NHL in shots allowed, yet be 25th in the NHL in goals allowed? Simple answer, dogpoop goaltending.
Bryzgalov and Bobrovsky are 43 & 44 out of 46 goaltenders who qualify in save %. The only tenders beneath them are Mason from Columbus, and Roloson from TB.
I watch a good amount of hockey, usually a couple of games a night when I'm home, and I don't see anyone giving up the amount of soft goals the Flyers goaltenders yield. It has to stop, and so does the people defending it. |
