Well Schultz is more of a defensive d-man while Gilbert is more offensive minded. Considering Edmonton already has some offensive minded guys in Jeff Petry, Ladislav Smid and Ryan Whitney it makes sense to add a stay at home d-man. On the other hand it looks like Minny was looking for a more offensive minded d-man which is why they went after Gilbert.

It makes sense, need for need. Not only does Edmonton have those other guys, but Minnesota just dealt Zidlicky, and Gilbert can be an offensive guy for them
