Congrats Buffalo, Hodgson looks like he is the real deal.

From watching him so far in his career:

Pros: Very slick passer who seems to have a knack for scoring clutch goals. I could easily see him scoring 30 goals and 30 assists in the next year or two if placed in a top six role. Likely future captain material one day.

Cons: Not very physical and can be pushed off the puck rather easily. He also has his questionable moments in the defensive zone, but has improved in this area a lot since the start of the season.

Gillis is insane. I bet Vigneault pulled the strings on this one. He never liked Hodgson. Awful, awful move by Vancouver.

I don't pretend to know the Sabres roster like you guys do, but in light of the deals Buff made today, not dealing Roy and Stafford were good moves...or non-moves, I guess.
- Dano819

I think we got better offensively today. If they can find someone to take Goose's PK minutes and other guys can win some faceoffs I think we'll be fine. Don't know about the playoffs. I think we still will need to be lucky to get in, but no one else fighting for 8th did anything of note.

What's Sulzer's deal, never heard of him. Depth guy?
- Homer

Decent 6-7 guy with a good shot and okay puck handling skills, does turn the puck over when pressured.

Who cares, you guys got Hodgson!

Sulzer is really nothing special, pretty sure he was just a salary cap dump in this deal. He's a decent puck moving D-man with size, but not very physical. His best attribute is probably his puck moving, but I don't really see him as a top 6 D-man in the NHL.

They will be tougher depending which Kassian shows up for each game.
- madcow251

true but no matter which staff shows up he wasn't making them tougher

I'm a Pens fan bu have family in Vancouver and watch most of their games. Hodgson looks like he's going to be a #1 centre. Not sure what the hell Gillis was thinking on this one.

Well thanks. Kassian is a big guy with a good shot who could stand to be a little more physical. He is willing to drop the gloves, but I wouldn't expect him to be the answer for Lucic all by himself.

Hahaha I was on HF boards looking at Nucks fans reactions....went to the deadline thread right when the trade came through....THEY ARE DYING...this is what one mod wrote....

If we get Myers out of it I might be okay with it.

Hell Ill throw in some more

Hodgson....no....noo....why?

Myers better be coming back...F this.

I'm going to be sick.

If we aren't getting a high-profile defenseman, we got robbed...

Only and only if Myers is coming back, will this be something i can accept.

Guess they really wanted Myers.......

They have been very high on Hodgson since he was drafted, and they think Kassian is a phony. Maybe they will be wrong, but they are very happy with this deal.
- Homer

They should be happy. I'll give credit where it is due. This is exactly the kind of trade the Sabres needed. Kassian would probably never hit his potential ceiling in Buffalo just as Hodgson wouldn't in Vancouver. I'm really surprised to say the least.

F*ck.

Gillis has been a great GM for Vancouver since he arrived. This deal looks pretty questionable, but I guess I need to have faith
