I liked the way the Leafs did it before ....lose early and often then win when it doesn't matter. This win early and blow a tire late thing sucks.
Gave my tix to a friend last night ...I have one less friend now. - The Law
ya I said yesterday, going to really suck if this is the 1st year in the last 5 they don't make a "late push for the playoffs" cause it's the first time that it might actually do something.
Win tonight could right the ship. Need to get some confidence going into Montreal, or they could easily drop the next 5-6 in a row.
Schedule in March is a female dog. very bad time to be playing this poorly. |

Havn't forgotten his last game..... he stunk real bad
The previous ones...... were those the ones he came in for Reimer cause Reims was shatting the bed again? - faceto27
Vancouver yes, Calgary no, he shat the bed all on his own there... confidence from his string of solid play is long gone. both are pretty fragile right now. |

I may have been wrong but the fact is they need playoffs to make $. They wont be happy missing it again. |

We should let Nabokov get the majority of the starts going down the stretch. Veteran presence and he's clutch.
Oh right. - AdamFrench
Dont even start me on this....again....Ive been saying this since the summer. |

Damn Raptors lol - jiri_crha
damn economy tanking and all the auto-industry add dollars drying up from TV, radio, and print.
and buying Citytv didn't help the bottom line either - turning around now though |

Actually, we have a better shot at becoming a lottery pick team then we do at making the playoffs considering our schedule |

playoffs is clearly extra dough...especially for Toronto...but our players could really use the experience as well...even if they get destroyed. |

this is starting to frustrate me to no end!!!
Reimer comes in...we dont win 10-0 so he sits again. (frank) me....let the kid play. - noename09
Without Gus, this team would have been dead last.
If the plan is to drop to last place...play Reimer.
If Burke still foolishly believes they can make the playoffs, play Gus and leave him in there for the rest of the season.
At least they'll have a chance.
and for gawds sake....bench Schenn. |

Teachers pension fund was just that - a pension fund - every single one of them makes more money when the Leafs make more money.
They have always ONLY cared about the bottom line. Your argument should be that Bell and Rogers will actually give a poop about winning, cause they can afford to losses to be tied to a successful brand. They will also benefit HUGE from the combined TV ratings of a long playoff run, not to mention stealing HNIC from CBC and getting it on TSN. Isn't that contract up after this year or next?
CBC needs Leafs in playoffs to afford to re-up HNIC. They could barely outbid TSN last time. It's actually in Bell/Rogers best interest for Leafs to be OUT of playoffs until the HNIC contract is up for renewal |

The HNIC contract i believe is negotiated through NHL head offices, don't think the Leafs have any say in the matter........ could be wrong |

Ken i feel bad for u. U gotta come up with puns for the leafs next 19 losses. U might as well just look at the schedule now and come up with the titles to save time - RoyMunson
1) Black Hawk Down but not out, Leafs Get Tom-a-hawked in Chicago
2) No gravy for this poutine, Leafs fall 8-0 to the blue blanc et Rouge
3) When Bears attack, Leafs Mauled by B's 17-1
There that should cover things for the next week! |

And I highly doubt the CBC would allow either TSN or Sportsnet to outbid them. HNIC is a national institution. |

This is all part of why they will want max return on investment=playoffs - jiri_crha
Dude - Teachers Pension Fund own MLSE before lockout when Leafs were constantly going to at least 2ns round of playoffs. They see FIRST HAND the difference in money. They wanted playoffs too - problem is the board erroneously thought they new a goddamn thing about hockey and tried to run the team themselves for years.
you just don't have an argument here. Both past and present owners are corporations who's bottom line is profits. The best case scenarios would have been having a single billionaire owner who cares about winning because HIS name is tied to the team.
For Bell/Rogers, this might be the case, as brand recognition is huge for them, but the will be FAR more concerned with building the fan base. That will be their MAIN focus. |

They will make coin without playoffs but remember it's gonna take time to recover the investment( the 1+ billion)...
Making the playoffs will go a long way in getting the initial investment back..Not questioning that The teachers wouldn't have loved the playoff coin but there coin was coming from value in investment and right now Bell and Rogers not getting that...
Playoffs gonna be a near must for Bell and Rogers as u would think they gonna want to get that investment back as soon as possible, so u can bet the pressure will be on..

paid for by taxpayers. CBC is governement regulated - their board has to answer to a budget provided by the governemtn (sort of). They barely got the contract renewed last time.
It is only a matter of time before HNIC is on TSN. This is an unavoidable fact. |

why was it so important.
If they had won - they still wouldn't be making the playoffs.
They lose - they still wont be making the playoffs.
