All I was saying is the fan base holds Wilson accountable for having a horrible team when Burkes has had 4 years to put something better together and has failed!
Yeah they could play the 1-3-1 but there is something those teams you mentioned all have and that's good goaltending.
Wilson could 1-3-1 all game the leafs would still lose because of give away's and poor tending.
This problem is Burke's
Burke has his hands all over this he want's that up tempo game but the roster is not good enough to play it. - duckyjets
Common now....considering what he had to start with, thats not fair. He got rid of some pretty sheitty contracts and brought in some talent. Hes done a good job so far... |

And I would agree to that, Burke is very accountable. However, I'm will to give him a pass because of the state this team was in when he took over. The fact that he has brought in guys like Kessel, Phaneuf, Liles, Colborne, Gardiner, Lupul, Bozak, Franson, Aulie/Ashton, and Brown for the very little peanuts he had is doing very well.
Personally I think you have to find the right coach for your team, not find the right team for your coach.

Here's my take on things:
Burke did not make any moves at the deadline because he is happy with his "blueprint" for the team. He feels that the players in the lineup can get this team to the playoffs. Therefore, if the Leafs continue to lose the only option is to fire Wilson, if it's not the players then it's the coach. Whether that is or isn't fair is to Wilson is not up to me.
It seems pretty certain that Wilson has lost the reigns on this team. Their systems are broken, not the players. Therefore you need to blame the system, Wilson is in charge of the system.
Burke should have gone out and got a veteran goaltender at the deadline to help ease the net situation. Prices be damned there wasn't 1 goaltender (Bishop aside) moved at the deadline. To me that suggests a lack of demand for goalies. A lack of demand suggests that supply should be high, if supply is high than the prices should be low. I would have no issues with tossing a 2nd round pick away for even a rental goalie to help this team into the playoffs.
Burke should have also chased size up the middle. He missed the boat on Jeff Carter yet again and should have moved whatever was needed to land him. This team will not win until that problem is solved and players like that do not grow on trees.

3 years isnt enough time to rebuild a team.. not even close. wait til the size burke has drafted makes it way through the system.. the leafs wont be a true burke team til about 3 years from now. Sure he wanted to build it faster.. but it hasnt happened. So long as he doesnt start trading off prospects in the system the leafs will be a very big aggressive team in 3 or 4 years. |

Who cares what contracts he has got rid off for every good player he has brought in there is a bad player he has also brought.
Komisarek, Tim Connolly, Armstrong, 3.6 for Schenn teams didn't even want him because of the cap hit.

Komisarek was a 1/2 shut down D man, complimentary to a puck moving D man at the time, something we needed for Kaberle. Over priced UFA at the time, but he is what we needed and that was the cost to get him. At the time.
You think signing Connolly was a bad idea? How about doing nothing about the 1C position and just ride Bozak (-29) for another season? Now at the time, that would be a worse decision. Connolly is 2 years, big whoop if he doesn't work out.
Armstrong, PWF with grit and talks trash, exactly what we needed, UFA cost 3mil to bring him in, that's what the cost was or no one at all.
Schenn, $3.5 was fair for a D man who's been our best one over the past 4 seasons (as a whole, not saying just this one) + his stats.
Lombardi? how about Lebda for Franson ($3.5mil) and Lombardi ($800k) that deal is essentially what happened there.
Burke has been a magician and done the best I think anyone could ask for in 3 1/2 seasons. Except for keeping Wilson .... ohhh to have McClean right now |

I know he made good moves for players like Lupul and Franson, Lombardi.
but like I said he's made is fair share of bad signings.
Kaberle was a good deal as well.
Now look at Versteeg deal everyone thought that was a great deal not the guys scoring 30 goals a season leading his team to the playoffs.
To me he got fleeced on that deal.
Burke for the most part is a good trader he usually gets the better of trades its his drafting and UFA signing thats less then desirable. |

I can't say whether or not he would be a good fit for this team. If I was running the show I would have gone out and got him and then built the team around him. "Attitude and partying" issues aside the kid is a hell of a hockey player. He is a London boy who would probably have been really happy to play so close to home, not too mention the TO night life.

Yeah I think he would have been better off not signing Connolly. Connolly has been useless.
Komisarek is un trade-able and is a healthy scratch most of the time.
Armstrong has played maybe 50 games in 3 years? You could have found that grit in the farm team for way less.
Lombardi and Franson I gave to burke but they had him as a healthy scratch for most of the beginning of the season. |
