Unfortunately, they've consistently gotten off to slow starts in games the last few months, and you can't string together winning streaks when you're constantly playing from behind. Beyond that, I'd say special teams letdowns have hurt them in games where they've been the better club at 5-on-5 (obviously that was a non-factor in SJ, but in the bigger picture it has been). - bmeltzer
So, you don't think it's a coaching level issue yet because yesterday the players didn't seem to be ready or have desire |

Don't you know, all goals Bryz gives up are bad goals, the post game write-ups are disgraceful by the beat writers. |

Bryz got blamed for last nights loss? Bryz not only has to stop the puck but he may need to start scoring also. |

I didn't really like the lines at the start of the game, and maybe this shouldn't be an excuse but it contributed to their slow start last night.
Their passing was off. The lack of energy to start games is a separate issue from the lines that continues to plague them, and maybe is the bigger issue.
I have to say putting Briere on the 4th line with Couts was a good wake up call for him and I agree with Jak, that line was the best one early on.
Simmonds and Schenn in the past month had great chemistry together and I have no idea why Lavi would break them up.
In the third when Briere got put with Jagr and Hartnell, the Flyers had three lines that started to dominate and get an offensive cycle going.
Bryz was stellar, it could have been 4-0 easily.
Maybe someday the skaters and Bryz will both have great games at the same time. |

Oh but yet they were really close. Barkan is an idiot. they talked about the shootout against Calgary and really refused to say he did well. They made fun of Iginla's attempt rather than say Bryz held his ground and didn't make the first move. |

I know everybody is upset, but I think this will sum it all up:
Some games lately- Goalies stink... Flyers lose
Some games lately- Defense stink... Flyers lose
Some games lately- Forwards stink... Flyers lose
Some games lately- Everybody stinks... Flyers lose
It just appears right now if two phases are clicking, the last phase decides it needs a clunker. And then some games they collectively don't show up as a team.
I'm not going to sit here and say that there will be a "switch" flipped etc. But what I do think is this team will right itself, just in time for the playoffs which is a great thing. Aside from last year's team, the Flyers stunk around this time in the year they went to the Cup and also the year the lost in the ECF to the Pens the Flyers had a 10 game losing streak right around the trade deadline.
A team doesn't win 34 games to this point if they are bad. They are going through a rough patch with this young team. I fully expect them to go on a tear really really soon. |

JvR broke his stick over a guy late in the 3rd.. no call. Hell I think we gotta away with more than them.. just cant imagine them not seeing the Vlasic hit.. it happened where the puck was.. someone had to have seen it... - jak521
That play was hysterical. I was ready to jump into my TV and choke JVR. No idea how/why that wasn't called

No I don't. I gaurentee you that Lavy has stressed the importance of getting off to fast starts and scoring the first goal. He can't make their legs move quicker and brains work smarter to start a game.
You want to complain about his system not being so defensively special or that his scheme wears out hockey teams that's fine, but I don't blame this on Lavy. During this stretch SOME players have continued to make the same mistakes and have done nothing to change that. Specifically: Giroux with low percentage, dangerous, behind the back passes at the oppositions blueline. Jagr not realizing that he isn't 25 anymore and REFUSING to dump the puck in (I want to (frank)ing kill him for this). Our defenses inability to step up on a shooter or for the core 4 to play physically in the crease. Lastly, our goalies need to be prepared at puck drop, not after the first or second goes past them. I'm sorry, but the glaring problems are not because Lavy is coaching them that way. I'm sure he's just as pissed as we are. |

Barkann is just doing what every reporter that goes to sports radio has to do, to some degree, to survive. Of course Barkann has been more egregious than most, quickly jumping into the FULL CATALDI MODE immediately. That's why I hate sports talk radio.
The problem has extended to the MSM and even bloggers. Part of a reporters job, IMO, is to educate, as well as report on the game. That's why a guy like Bill is held in such high regard. He doesn't have an agenda, he calls it like he sees it and most importantly, he loves the game, knows the game and strives to help others understand it as well.
