I'd think it's both. If e was sims fatigued I don't know that he would have logged the least amount of minutes so I have to believe there is some injury there. - funmaster18
It could well be both. The thing about making a trade is, from most accounts, in December the prices were high on everybody. Blame forced or unforced parity, 3 point games, whatever, but on January 1st, there were ZERO teams that were more than 10 points out of the playoffs in the East and only 3 in the West.
Now, in the past two weeks the teams that are out of it have been better identified and with the TDL, trades had to happen for teams to get value. For all the talk about it being a seller's market, I didn't see a lot of teams overpay at the TDL, where two months ago they would have had to |

What is the purpose of criticizing the media? Who gives a flying (frank) what they say or write. - PLindbergh31
What's the purpose of consistently remind us of how badly Shelley sucks? Or of you constantly complaining about everything? My kids complain less when they have colds or stomach bugs and are puking all day.
The point of criticizing the media is because people read them and believe it to be fact. Then they come here parroting some bit of nonsense born from Carchidi or WIP. If people are using a Carchidi opinion piece as a base to their comment, then criticizing the original flawed thought process is certainly proper. |

it's easy to ignore the media. it's not easy to ignore fans who regurgitate the garbage they read/hear/see when trying to keep up with the team. - OrangeBlack27
Do a bunch of people who post here take anything the media says seriously? Is there a bunch of folks quoting Carchidi, and Seravalli as legit guys who know hockey? Or is there an incessant bashing on how much they suck, and how clueless they are? My point is who cares how bad they are. They have zero effect on anything that happens on the ice. |

The thing is, the drama they stir permeates through other sports media in the area. It becomes the only understanding other casual sports fans have of this team. So maybe it's not really an issue to you, who do not have the issue of proximity. Those of us who're in the area, who have co-workers who tune in during the day, who have friends, acquaintances, and neighbors who reflect the nonsense in conversation, and who see the same drama eventually spun into other sources, I think it's a reasonable and relevant source of anguish.
Of course, maybe it's immature to complain about things one would consider irrelevant. Perhaps that's something we both could meditate on. |

I'd say 90% of people who consider themselves Flyers fans probably don't care enough/have the time/are pathetic enough to post on message boards. Instead, they go to philly.com or csn to get news and updates and maybe aren't quite as adroit in their knowledge of the game to be able to pick apart the BS from decent reporting and analysis. |

I respectfully disagree. I'm more concerned about the team than the media. If people want to get caught up with how bad the media is it's their right. Whatever floats your boat. |

Fair points.
But instead of female dogging about the places or people whom your acquintances get there info from, educate them. Tell them about the naunces of the game that they are missing.
Tell them where they are misinformed instead of trash talking where they got there info from.
The female dogging serves no purpose.

I guess I just expect people to do their jobs and give a poop about it. Maybe I am a bit of a hockey snob and when I hear the stupidity that I hear sometimes from other fans (esp at the games) and know its coming from the media because they take what they say as gospel, it pisses me off. I'm not talking about opinion......we all have opinion about players, situations, etc. I am talking about basic facts, etc. |

Could you elaborate? It's kind of a broad thing to disagree with. Again, maybe it's not the same for you, not being in the area. I also think you're mischaracterizing those of us who're displeased with the media as caring more about them than the team. |

For example, I'm a Mets fan. I love the Mets. The fans are disgusted that the Wilpons, supposedly savy businessmen, lost all their money investing in Bernie Madoff's ponzi scheme unknowingly (yeah right). Now, they are being sued and have cut their payroll more than any team has in history in 1 offseason... 50 million dollars. - Flyers1218
Not quite true. Wilpon MADE a fortune investing with Bernie Madoff. He pulled his money out early and investigators believe there was collusion between the two and Wilpon knew the pyramid scheme was about to collapse. They want Wilpon to give back to the custodian all the money he made off of Madoff so they can redistribute it among the people who lost their shirts. |

I understand, but can't you just tune them out? You don't need their input to understand the game, you don't need the media to educate you on the sport. You know what you are watching.
For me watching the games, and reading Bill's blog, and using the forums as an outlet are enough. |

i'd say <1% of fans in all sports really have a good grasp of what's going on. unfortunately, people aren't exactly adept at weeding through the bs. also, perception is reality; which is scary to think about when it comes to sports, let alone actual important things in life.
if more people read bill meltzer and matt gelb, they'd know a hell of a lot more about the flyers and phillies. |

One can try, and I know I attempt to, but when folks are fans of these media sources, feel ingratiated to them for giving the "real story", it's a rather Sisyphean task. |

Most of us are more concerned with the team than the media. My concern with the media is two fold, one that it's a distraction in and of itself and two that it leads to other distractions, like a guy getting booed after getting a shutout at home.
Regardless of whether you or I say it shouldn't affect the players, it's obvious that it has to some degree. |

My basic point is no one is forcing you or anyone to read the papers, listen to the radio, talk sports with co-workers etc... If it isn't a pleasurable experience, what's the purpose of partaking in any of it? |

I laughed @ Frank's tweet last night explaining how a faceoff was moved outside of the zone b/c the Flyers' Dmen came down below the circles to partake in a scrum after the whistle.
You know somebody in the pressbox told him that 30 seconds before he tweeted it. |
