Reminds me of my brother, when he lived in NC, telling me that the Canes' PA announcer would explain icing each time it happened when they first arrived from Hartford.

So Carle is 6th on the Flyers so he cant play defense?
Behind Timonen, Mez, Couburn, Kubina, Grossman when it comes to penalty kill minutes. - stveshdy
Carle has been used on the PK this year. Kubina and Grossman got their minutes from their previous teams. |

Carle will see less PK now bc the other players are better than him. I dont think that makes Carle a player who cant play defense imo. |

Did you see the player almost get hurt last night again trying to cancel the icing? During the Dallas/Pens game.
I wonder if the NHL is going to make a change in the rules. |

Nope. I only watched bits and pieces of the game, saw the Letang hit, but then had to tend to the kids for a bit, and when I got back to the TV, I got into the Godfather. |

You're missing the point. No one said that Yandle "can't play defense".
He's just not a good defensive player, nor does he regularly go against other team's top lines.
And yes, Carle's unlikely to see many PK minutes with the acquisitions. |

That's exactly what happened. I had every intention of turning games back on and boom, Woltz is waking up with the Horse's head...hard to turn it off. |

i knew what brad meant, i was just poking fun at him. i look at ozone starts and the advanced numbers a lot. aside from the obvious guys who stand out when you watch a game, it's easy for many of the contributions of the rest of 36 players that are suited up to go unnoticed or be forgotten. i find the advance stuff helps me with that (as do some of the real-time stats). |

I have hesitantly embraced them...I don't often use them to confirm what I'm watching, and rarely have I taken a look at real time Advanced stats during a game. But If there's a player I haven't seen a lot of, they can be a fairly helpful tool in determining what his play has been like. |

Ok, everyone's first car? Mine, 1978 Camaro Z28. White with black pin stripes. Smoked glass T-tops. - Deasr1
1972 Plymouth Satellite Custom station wagon. Bought it from my folks for $50 when they couldn't make it run anymore. It was almost 6 years old at that time, (which was an eternity for update NY back in those days), and it was so rusted out you could see the shocks and the leaf springs through the huge holes in the rear quarter panels.
Dad was going to pay a wrecker $50 to tow it out of the driveway, so I told him I'd give him the $50 if he let me keep it. Fixed the radiator and drove it for two more years after that. Great for lugging all of my brother's and my hockey equipment. Not too stylish, but I was a carpool favorite.

When I said real-time stats, I meant shots blocked and hits (which i know varies from building to building but still gives you some idea of a player), etc. that nhl.com for some reason categorizes as "real time stats".
For instance based on word of mouth, I assumed Tom Gilbert was terrible. Was quite surprised to see his advanced numbers; Oilers faired considerably better in puck possession when he was on the ice than not despite his facing good competition and not really being sheltered with o-zone starts. Looks like Minny did really well in that deal. |

Reminds me of my buddy's 1984 grand marquis that was approximately 36-feet long. Not a beauty, but sure could fit a ton of us in there. |

I understand what you mean-hits, etc that the NHL calls "real time stats", but there's sites that keep real time Corsi, too-or as close to real as one can get.
I was surprised by the Gilbert numbers, too...I read a blog about the trade, and the numbers indicated that Gilbert wasn't just some offensive specialist for Edmonton. |

Yeah the real time corsi stuff is alright, but those metrics are much more valuable over a large portion of the season, of course. |

It's one of my 5 favorite flicks, and I am not a horror fan, generally. I just love how it's done, and I love that they named the Shark robot after Spielberg's lawyer. |
