That's okay, I don't understand watching ordinary idiots going through their days with cameras capturing their every move, but that's what floats her boat. - tangent_man
Thats why I dont even bother anymore. I just go into my hiding spot and watch the game alone. This way I can let my emotions go and not have to worry about answering a ridiculous question.

Its pretty hard to feel like you have a home ice advantage when fans are booing your goalie for MAKING saves and booing him after he posts a shutout.
Just one point of view on the whole thing. - MBFlyerfan
I think familiarity with the rink and last change mean more to home ice advantage than what the fans are doing in the stands. |

Speaking of Nystrom.... Did anyone see the hit on Letang last night? I was reading the Penguins blog, and the Pens fans were up in arms over the hit. Bylsma basically said he blamed Letang for putting himself in a prone position. - PLindbergh31
Letang was bent so low which I think contributed to Letang getting hit up high like that. and I still couldn't tell if his head was hit. |

Her biggest gripe is that I had to pick the sport that boasts the longest season.

Yeah, he leaned and lowered his body. There was contact with his head, he took one right on the button. Early indications are Letang is concussed again. |

I think the Flyers' D is reasonably physical between Meszaros (underrated in that department but doesn't always pick his spots well), Coburn (sporadic but can be effective) and Grossman (physical but clean; not a big board rattler often but never shies away from contact). Kubina is huge and more sneaky-dirty than a banger but is tough to outmuscle in front.

You are one of those I think who tries to claim that the fans have no bearing on home ice advantage. I completely and utterly disagree with you in every way.
I think the CROWDS are the #1 reason why teams get an advantage playing at home in any sport. But that is just me I guess.

Wow. I hadn't seen that. I thought Roenick was going to say you're Mr. Toughguy putting your hands on 12 year old kids. That would have been awesome if he said that to Milbury. |

The Flyers have chosen me to write the articles for Mark Howe's jersey retirement game that will run next week for their official site. Here's what I have planned:
1) A main article previewing the night, and the way Howe now has achieved just about every possible post-career individual honor: Hockey Hall of Fame, U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame, Flyers Hall of Fame, NHL jersey retirement.
2) A side article looking at Howe's top five moments in Philadelphia and a collection of tributes from former teammates.
3) Apart from the articles, there will be related links posted to the lengthy two-part Heroes of the Past retrospective and Spectrum Memories articles I did for the Flyers' site a few years ago, as well as links to other Howe-related articles that have run on the Flyers' site.
4) There should also be a video highlights package put together by the Flyers, which will be linkable from the main article.
I am really psyched to be doing this. Howe's jersey retirement is something I've been waiting a long time to see, and be even a small part of chronicling it is a thrill for me. I think everyone here knows what Howe's career meant to me -- he was my all-time favorite player.

I don't think the fans have zero bearing, majority of the arenas are full of artificial noise anyway, outside of Winnipeg, when I watch games I don't see fans wildly loud or having any effect on the visiting team. |
