So the entire first HALF of the season means NOTHING??

I disagree completely with that. Yes, we need to get better goaltending...which we WERE. And I agree we're having trouble with the checking now, but I don't think the tight checking just instantly gets better after the all star break. It's pretty much there by mid-late November in my opinion.

Even after the All Star break we were still playing well. Then February we just fell apart for some reason. I think with consistent confidence and composure will come consistent goaltending and a better defensive game which turns into more consistent winning.

That "reason" in feb was actually forcing Riemer to be the #1 when he wasn't ready and it (frank)ed over Gus. Leaving us with no decent goalie, and soft goals deflated this team badly. No one has confidence anymore except Kessel and Lups.

i appreciate the optimism.
but ottawa and florida completely retooled in the off season and got results.
is that a testament to good gm work or the fact that both those teams hired highly touted coaches rather than sticking with a coaching formula that doesn't work.

lets be honest ottawa is a surprise team... everyone was discrediting our win against them at the beginning of the season cause they were apparently horrible, they are a factor of great coaching and their best players having great years... and their goalies are stopping pucks.... and as for florida i have been to 6 games this year for them and they play the most boring defensive style of games that makes me want to leave 5 min into the games.... however both teams are in the playoffs and good for them but look at how many o.t. loses florida has that is rediculous.... if we played a boring defensive game our building would be even quieter....

the opening night line-up from 2010-2011 is far different than 2011-2012.
Changing the coaching staff is a major part of the 'overhaul' I was talking about with both florida and ottawa.I already credited good coaching for a huge part of the improvement.
