He is looking good at the right time If this team can bear down and flip the switch....it's on. - Just5
Exactly. Bryz has been on his game lately. He seems to be getting better each night. He will take his game to another level come playoff time. All the haters will be on the bandwagon before its over and I have no problem with that. Come along and enjoy the ride. |

I can see where the unproportionate (new word) resizing might have caused you to think that. That and the hairdo. |

Just so I can get some clarity to some things I've been thinking about. This goes out to our Hockey historians and those with a much better memory then I. Carolina's Cup team in 06. Were they very good defensively, or did Ward just stand on his head? |

As I recall, they were a very solid defensive team. Lot of vets who knew how to play two way hockey...but Ward was also very solid, as well(.920, 2.14)...the Canes scored at nearly a 3 G per game pace, and allowed 2.4 GA per game that run. |

Do you think he retires now Tim? More important do you think he finally realizes he's not an NHLer?? He may be a 3rd line player at best, he reminds me of guys like Alexander Daigle, he actually might even have been better than JVR! What a waste.

Just looking at the stats. The Canes went from being one of the worst defensive teams in the Regular Season, giving up 3.15 goals a game. To being one of the best defensive teams in the playoffs giving up 2.40 goals a game. Just curious what that was attributed to. |

Jimmy Watson got called. Potvin scored the first OT PPG in Finals history to win that game. - Jsaquella

They did make some key additions at or before the TDL. Added guys like Doug Weight and Mark Recchi to stabilize things. Also, Ward played far, far better in the playoffs than the regular season (3.68 GAA, .882 Sv% vs 2.14 .920)
However, I didn;t watch much regular season...only playoffs. |

Tightening up defensively and strong goaltending? - flyguy12
I was looking for a more specific answer, not a generality that can be speculated on. What I'm really looking for is were the Canes better defensively. Or was it just Ward playing out of his mind. I don't remember it clearly. Other then Ward won the Conn Smythe.
I guess what I'm trying to figure out is the main reasons why the Flyers are so poor defensively right now. I don't think it's all on the Coach, bet they certainly don't look like a well coached team defensively. I feel that there are areas where Laviolette's system is weak as far as the defensive side. But I think that's only part of it. They're capable of playing much better in their own end, even under the current system. Such as the Flyers were the best defensive team in the playoffs in the Cup run 2010. |

Ward was playing out of his mind in the playoffs. If I remember correctly he took over for Gerber who was struggling. Ward was unbelieveable during their playoff run. They obviously played better defensively but the goaltending had alot to do with the goals per game going down. |
