Really good read on Mark Howe, Bill. Deserving of his long overdue accolades, for sure.
Also, Flyers made recall of Erik Gustafsson official. - Jsaquella
Mark Howe. Best defenseman not in the Hockey Hall of Fame.
Glad the NHL finally woke up. |

Happy Sunday...
Time to put some jam back into the system and win two in a row.
Watching Howe in the Alumni Game was awesome. The man still has a set of wheels on him. |

An outstanding article on Mark Howe. I'd imagine they'll just keep Gustafsson on the roster the rest of the way with the limited # of call ups. |

On tonights game, not coming out in a fog would be key #1. Not letting down for 5 minute stretches in the D zone would be key #2. I don't know why for the Flyers don't start games engaged and ready and participating....it just won't do. And it makes not watching that much easier...cause you get so frustrated with them so fast...
On Mark Howe. The classiest, cleanest, smartest hockey player I have ever seen. Best skating defenseman not named Paul Coffey I ever saw...people who didn't see him play, and didn't see him pre back issues, really have no idea what they missed...the subtle game he played. He and Beast were the best blue line pair in the history of the franchise and should rank as one of the best pairs in the history of the game (well, since the expansion era). |

Bill, nice job on Howe. I was fortunate enough to watch him play. The thing that struck about him was his size. He was listed at 5 11, 190 but I doubted it. I had the opportunity to meet him when he was in street clothes. He appeared to be a couple inches shorter and maybe 20 pounds lighter. It's a testament to his ability that he survived and excelled at a bigger man's position. The Flyers' haven't had a defenseman close to him in ability. Only wish the Flyers could have grabbed that Cup in 87, so close... |

Interesting that Gustafsson was called up. Holmgren said yesterday Timonen, Meszaros, and Coburn all had maintenance days.
Even if one of the D-Men is banged up and can't play tonight, isn't that what Lilja is there for? He's been exactly what Flyers signed him to be. That 6th/7th depth defenseman.
I see Edmonton, and San Jose have really used the shutout wins over the Flyers as springboards to go on major runs.
Win the game tonight, 2 months without consecutive wins is bordering on the absurd. |

As usual, you are a bucket of cheer. The Flyers should hire you as a motivational therapist.

Good job Bill ... I always enjoy reading these. Mark Howe is the best Flyers defenseman of all time without a doubt. Next for me would be Eric Desjardins.
Who is Adam Weinrich? Is he Eric's brother and did he wear a yellow shield/visor as well? haha |
