+/- is overrated - what are point totals?

Plus-minus is NOT overrated when you are +85, your partner is +83 and the rest of the D is either even (one guy) or minus (the other main four guys who played that season).

It also isn't overrated when you are a major plus-rated player playing 25 minutes a game on a losing team while battling chronic back problems.

It isn't overrated when you are playing 35-40 minutes per game in your prime.

In a case that it, in fact, the plus-minus tells you more than points do.

I guess thats your opinion (not trying to change it). If I have to pick one to be on my team (regular season and playoffs) im taking Bourque every time.

But I always wanted Pronger and I'd probably take him over any defenseman if I was building a team.
When it comes to forwards as long as the third and fourth line are built right I think you can do whatever you want with the top two lines as long as those guys can score 20-30 goals a year.
With goalies, I like them crazy.

Edit: Back when the Lindros relation was starting to sour in late 97 I wanted and prayed so hard to Lindberghe's ghost that we'd trade Lindros to the blues for Pronger.

He was comparing Bourque in Playoffs to Howe. The more minutes a player plays is a direct correlation to a positive +/- especially if he plays with gifted offensive forwards (1st 2 lines) like Philly had and a good overall team. Howe also had a great breakout pass and was a great penalty killer and I think Philly led league in shorties that season.

Robinson +120 in 76/77 and Orr +124 in 70/71 are 2 more examples.

But all were great 2 way players as well as Bourque.
