Well, that was less than a week ago. Vanek is the one who hasnt done anything in about 3 weeks. - theblueandgold
So I should give Roy a pass because he scored ONE goal? |

vanek has no hustle. gets frustrated, makes bad choices.

It's time to put Hodgson between Vanek & Pommer. The Roy cancer on that line is taking over again. If not Hodgson, then Ennis. Put McCormick there for all I care, as long as it's not Roy. He just doesn't play well with TV. Never has, never will. |

I didn't know you could be invisible for six games but still score a game winner in that span. It was a stupid sentence -- that goal was important. - OnPoint
So were the 40 saves that Miller made. That line has been dreadful. 3rd and 4th line guys have more points than our 1st line guys. |

No, but you should stop focusing only on Roy and realize there are other players on the team that are giving much pooptier efforts independent of whoever is playing with them. |

id be okay with that. hodgson makes some nice plays to ennis who proceeds to miss or throw the puck into the side of the net.
if his wingers could shoot he would probably have several points already. |

While your team had 3 days to rest at home in their own beds and jack off, our team was out on a west coast swing and entered tonight's game playing 4 games in 6 nights, winning 3 of them including the Canucks. - theblueandgold
That's because your team has been in the bottom of the standings for the whole season and teams take you lightly.... Your the "team" that "good teams" start their back up's for....
You sound like a real winner though..... good for you.

Put Vanek on the 4th line and let Boyes play with Pommer and Roy. |

I'd bench the whole line. Upper body injuries (no heart). You can't play together thats cool. I know you can sit together. |

Not focusing just on Roy. The entire line has been donwright awful. I hate Derek Roy, I will admit that, but Thomas Vanek is becoming a bigger problem to me right now. |

Vanek's best 2 seasons were with Roy EXCLUSIVELY as his center
Granted, they were on the 3rd line at the time
BUT...
Vanek's slump has a hell of a lot more to do with VANEK than it does with who he's playing with at any certain time
I think ppl don't seem to realize that
Not that I particularly like Roy or anything...
But vanek's problems are his own fault
And thinking that getting him a #1 center will magically make vanek understand that he needs to put forth more effort CONSISTANTLY and play with more physicality on the boards & around the net...
Well, let's just say I greatly disagree
The player that can get the most out of vanek... Is VANEK |

Right. I'm not defending that line's play as of late. I'm not trying to take anything away from Miller's great night. I'm just pointing out Garth's lack of sense in saying they've been invisible for six games when that line scored a game winning goal within the last four.
Nevermind. Carry the hate on. It makes you strong. |

Vanek has elevated his game when not playing with Roy. He's come out and, albeit subtly, said as much. You're right. Separating Roy and Vanek isn't going to magically put Vanek on a 40 goal pace right now. However, it may make him play better than he is now. It's happened before, more than once. The Sabres did it right earlier in the year: play Vanek and Pominville with someone else, be it Adam, Leino, Szcezchura, or whoever, and when they really need to step things up, insert Roy in between them (see the Montreal game in November right after the Boston fiasco). It works as a spark. It's a bad idea long term.
I want them to replicate that. Play someone else between the two of them, preferably Hodgson, and if you feel you need a spark, then insert Roy there.

Elite players make other players around them better. Vanek is supposed to be the Sabres elite forward, but he's not. All this blaming Roy is BS. Vanek should up Roys game but he just is one slump after another. |

But you are and so is everyone else on here.
Vanek's lack of wanting to play the game is the reason that line is suffering. Roy and Pommer will pressure the puck and then have to get back because Vanek is standing around.
You can put any other winger with Roy and Pommer and they would get scoring again. That was proven when Leino was playing with them when Vanek went down. |
