Cutting ties with unsustainable teams. The league (Bettman and greedy owners) put itself into this mess and the league can dam well fix it. And by fix it, I mean throw money at those teams (ala Coyotes) and not kick them to the curb. NHLPA will not take kindly to the prospect of job losses for the players. Plus there is all the support jobs that go with an NHL franchise. - rockychocbill
Owners will not vote to contract because they'd have to buy out the owners of the teams they contracted. They still foolishly discuss expansion because it would be a measly 10-14 million in each of their pockets, but at the same time exacerbate the issues of uncompetitive teams. |

For those weeping about losing the drawing for Kane, the Chicago fans are discussing Kane's disinterest in competing this season. You can imagine how obvious it must be if even Midwesterners are complaining about it. And you can imagine how that would go over here. |

Probably for the best. I forgot the whole season that led to the flyers losing the JVR draft. |

Kane is kind of a douche (am I master of understatement or what) so I'm actually fine that they missed out on him, although him, Richards, and Carter together sure would have been interesting on the ice and in taxi cabs in Old City.
EDIT: Leight to Marc D and Skippy with the obligatory Kane discussion cab reference. |

So because two guys -- one who isn't even a comparable to JVR -- have progressed quicker than JVR, he's now a huge risk to not reach 30 goals?
15 goals as a rookie. 21 goals last year. He was poised for a breakout this year. Injuries have stalled that progression by a year. - bradleyc4
There is no doubt in mind that if JVR stayed healthy this year, he would've been around the 30 goal mark. Which would've have put him right there on the same development path as Neal. In fact that would mean he'd have reached the 30 goal mark sooner then Neal. It's speculation on my part. But I think it would've happened.

Perhaps I'm putting to much stock into a key season in his development being a washout due to injury. These injuries are bad luck, so it's not like he can be labeled injury prone. If he had played a full season to this point, and he was sitting at 20+ goals right now, it wouldn't be an issue. - PLindbergh31
Do you use injuries to assess a player's potential, and what you think he is capable of? JVR can't control getting injured.
