Ok, one more on the subject. This is the key point.
Kronwall may not have thought "I'm going to hit him in the head". We can't know that. But the issue is, or what I believe the league will think the issue is, is that Kronwall has more of a responsibility than to simply "not try to hit him in the head on purpose". He has to avoid hitting the targeted player in the head if he has the time to be reasonably expected to do so. That's what the league wants to see. Guys making the conscious choice to avoid head shots when they can.
I believe Kronwall had time to avoid it. He chose not to avoid it. He had all day to line him up and did not avoid the head shot when he clearly could have. I think if there is anything suspendable about that play, it's that. He could have avoided the head contact but didn't. Simple as that.

We are a pretty knowledgeable group in here. Almost all of us believed the best way to get Bryz where he needs to be was to ride him, and ride him some more.
Bryz is now playing like the guy we thought we were getting when they signed him. And it couldn't be coming at a better time. - MBFlyerfan
Confidence is a funny thing. Once you lose it, even the bounces go against you. But all it takes sometimes is a few good games in a row, a big win, a timely save and you're back in the groove.
He looks strong on his skates, aggressive toward the puck, moving well and big in the net.
Another very nice game. |

Bryz has been tremendous, and credit Homer for picking up Grossman and Kubina, they have been rock solid. Good job Homer. |

Good point. Nothing else of value to give up other than a # 1. Maybe in retrospect it's better off that the deadline isn't Friday.
The amazing thing about the 5 key players being out, that doesn't include Pronger. - PLindbergh31
right, that's 6 players, and you might as well make it 7, and add briere to that list. |

On another note. What is the contingency when the Flyers reach their limit on callups. Will they have to play with a shorthanded roster if there are not enough healthy bodies? - MBFlyerfan
I'd have to research that. |

yah right, oh well. some ADK guys better get ready.. i can see jake and jagr out for a bit - bigmookalookie
I have to read up on the rules. The Flyers only have two call ups available to them. They will likely need at least one, and maybe two depending on Jagr's status. I think there is something called injury emergency call-ups. |

Exactly what your talking about is included in Rule 48. Which is the player putting himself in a vulnerable spot immediately prior to, or simultaneously with the hit. That is not the case here. When there is that much time when the player being hit is in a vulnerable spot, before the hit, the onus is on the hitter to avoid targeting the player with an illegal hit

I wonder if the beat reporters will call it a soft goal. Zetterberg made a heck of shot, if Roo did that MacDonald I'm sure that is how it would be written. Nonetheless, Bryz has been really hot is positioning and rebound control has been stellar. |

because even that little shove got them 2 minutes. as much as i wanted them to go and kill him, i imagine the coaching staff was more concerned about the 2 points.
however, as zetter cruised in one particuar moment i noticed on a power play entry they could have cleanly and legally destroyed him. and i wish they had. - Don'tForgetTocchet
the flyers NEVER and i mean NEVER retaliate when they lose a guy to a dirty hit. i'm talking years and years here, not this season. tonight, i wanted to see them change that trend. |

Well Briere is still playing for the moment. There are 17 games left, there will be more injuries before the season is over, and probably several.

It's like MBFlyer said earlier. In order for him to not have hit the head in this instance he would have had to either low bridge him or not hit him at all. The torso was the target for impact. The head just happened to come along for the ride.

I thought I noticed him out challenging the shooter more too. I know Franzen is a good shooter and beat him once, but he had a couple more looks at Bryz and I thought he was out of the net being humongous big. |

well of course i was hoping they'd say be damned with the game and destroy him.
hartnell stepped up and was hitting them quite a bit after that, and kubina too i noticed.
i expected to see simmonds make an attempt.
rinaldo tried to do some damage... but it seemed he was held off the ice after he clipped that (frank)er in front of the net as soon as he came of the penalty box. |

I don't think Kronwall did anything wrong. Sure he could have avoided the hit, but that's not his game, he hits everything that moves.
