I thought I noticed him out challenging the shooter more too. I know Franzen is a good shooter and beat him once, but he had a couple more looks at Bryz and I thought he was out of the net being humongous big.

Agreed, I like he is really communicating with his d-men before the next face-off, seems like everyone is getting on the same page.

Exactly what your talking about is included in Rule 48. Which is the player putting himself in a vulnerable spot immediately prior to, or simultaneously with the hit. That is not the case here. When there is that much time when the player being hit is in a vulnerable spot, before the hit, the onus is on the hitter to avoid targeting the player with an illegal hit
- MJL

Disagree. Voracek had the puck and was skating out of the zone. Kronwall was standing his ground. Voracek took two looks up the ice coming out of the zone. He was not vulnerable in the sense of the term as it applies to the rule imo.

Was Lindros in a vulnerable position before Stevens clocked him? Pretty much the same play in my view.

he gave up another goal on the first shot of the game. great to see him not implode.

If it was a bad goal it might have gotten in his head. But it was just a fantastic shot by Zetterberg.

i just don't get it. why do so many people think that hit is clean? just a dirty play with full out intent to injure. how is the philly media not up in arms about this? wtf

Rule 48 didn't exist when Lindros played, or at least not in its current state

It's like MBFlyer said earlier. In order for him to not have hit the head in this instance he would have had to either low bridge him or not hit him at all. The torso was the target for impact. The head just happened to come along for the ride.
- rockychocbill

Well, I don't agree with that, nor with MBFlyer's assertion either. I think your photo clearly shows that Kronwall is almost upright at the point of contact. Had he chosen to do so, instead of turning his side to Voracek and going for the high hit, he could have simply stayed facing Voracek and dropped his shoulder about 4 inches and it would have hit him right in the chest.

That's the issue. He had options to avoid hitting the head first, and he didn't take them. I have no idea what the league will do. But if they are serious about removing head shots, and putting at least some of the onus on the hitter for avoiding hits to the head, then this has to be punished in some way.

response to paragraph 1: so voracek ran into a stationery player?

response to paragraph 2: stevens would have been suspended for that hit if he did it today.

In my opinion, I don't think Jake being "vulnerable" is the big issue here. He does have a responsibility to not leave himself wide open like that. Kronwall baited him and he fell for it. That's not what I have a problem with.

It's all about the fact that Kronwall had options to avoid the head shot and didn't take them. At least that's my opinion. I guess we'll see.

Where was the suspension of Vlasic for clearly boarding a defenseless Briere? That to me, was a clear cut suspension, and nothing.

There is at least different interpretations of what constitutes a head shot, boarding a guy from behind is pretty cut and dry.

Because we can be objective? As for the media, not sure how to answer that. The team seems to agree with us.

A few things:

1. Jake has a history of having his head down. Unfortunate it happened and we all wish him well. Shany has a difficult decision there.

2. Bryz played a great game and the forward in front of him played decent. He covered up some loose defensive play in the third.

3. G finally took over a game again. He has been stone hands for the past few weeks but tonight he and Bryz were the deciding factors.

Any reports on Jagr?

From the last picture you posted I was afraid he lost some teeth. Hope he doesn't have a conky.

I felt the same way you apparently do about that Briere hit, and you're right, the league did nothing. They still seem horribly inconsistent despite their efforts to be more transparent with the video explanations, etc. I thought Shannahan was off to a good start at the beginning of the year. Lately he's been all over the place. I don't know what to think anymore.

It's a good sign he doesn't have a concussion now, but as we know symptoms can appear days later.

If I am the Flyers I still think about holding him out for a game. If you have to play Shelley you play him.
