Lavi was talking to one reporter, answering the question about Giroux not taking faceoffs because (the reporter said) "Giroux is not 100%." Lavi responded that Hartsy has been their best faceoff guy out there, so they threw him out there tonight to win faceoffs. TP must've laughed at the answer because that's when Lavi asked the above question. - Flyskippy
Yes against the Caps after Simmonds hit Chimera, Chimera got up and then slashed Giroux and another Flyer with no call. I think Giroux has a bruised wrist and can't get any leverage on faceoffs. Didn't slow him down on those breakaways tonight. |

I won't disagree with this. I've made this claim myself with countless other hits in the past. I've been called a sissy and that these types of plays happen in the game all the time. If you want hitting to be a part of hockey then this hit will be a part of it. Honestly, when I was growing up playing minor hockey, this hit would have been on a instructional video as being a perfect hard clean hit. No word of a lie. - rockychocbill
No question. If I had made a hit like that when I was playing (and I may in fact have made one or two) I would have been cheered by coaches and fans alike. Would have been one of those situations where Dad said "pick your favorite place to go eat son, great hit".
Heck, in the NHL 2 years ago there isn't even a question about this hit. This is all about the league wanting to make players choose to avoid head contact when they can reasonably be expected to do so while still making a hockey play.
That's not saying hitting in general is bad, or that all hits that involve head contact are suspendable or illegal. It's about that subset of hits where the hitter has time and space to avoid the head contact and still throw a check or make a play. I think, and I know others do not agree, that Kronwall had time to avoid head contact and still make a solid, even crushing hit. But he chose not to do so. Seems to me like exactly what the league is trying to eliminate. |

There is no way Voracek doesn't have a concussion. - KGBflyers10
I thought Voracek's head hitting the ice, was worse than the contact of the hit myself. |

everytime i watch that hit it looks worse to me. just sickening - flyerscup2011
Agree it was sickening.
That said, it wasn't dirty. Of course it could have been avoided. All hits can be avoided but they are still part of the game.
Jake had his head down coming out of the zone and paid for it. It was a shame it put him down, but it was not illegal.

honestly, i'm impressed with how he's quickly and quietly turned his game around. i simply didn't believe it would happen this year. the team needs him now more than ever. i'm happy for him. |

Yeah, I knew that - was just 'splainin' the context of Lavi's quote.

yes, but they are going to say Voracek was bending down and give him the blame.
The league talks about ending head shots but they will allow this. Its all just talk. |

love how after chimera slashed coburn(maybe someone else?) and then slashed the poop out of giroux, he went onto his bench having a full-on hissy fit slamming the bench door twice over a clean check from simmonds. he could have been called twice on that shift. of course he wasn't called on anything and now giroux's hand is (frank)ed. |

Everyone here screaming about how Kronwall should have let up or avoided the hit. Had that been Carle or another Flyers defenseman and he let up or avoided the hit you would be screaming bloody murder about how "soft" he is. - MBFlyerfan
Kronwall consistently tries to decapitate players, and from what we've been told, there's no place in the league for someone like that. |

Before the days of Rule 48 that is absolutely a legal hit. Afterwards, in the context of that rule, which has been posted here, I don't know how it can be viewed as "legal". Whether the rule is going to take hitting out of the game or is a good rule is another debate, but it's there, and has already been invoked this season. |
