Why do the bruins need turco? Haven't been following them at all, but what's the point of he can't play in playoffs? Do they have goalie injuries? - funmaster18
Rask done for six weeks, bro. |

It's actually very hard to do because the game is so fast and guys have learned to spin away and dodge hits. Once in a while the stars align themselves like last night and a guy ends up seeing them. - rockychocbill
Exactly. Being able to take the body like players like Scott Steven, Nicklas Kronwall etc... is a talent, and a willingness to give up your own body. Very few players are capable of doing it on a consistent basis. |

I didn't see the hit on Letang. Obviously there are always going to be contextual differences, which is why the stuff is so hard to pin down. But they have to draw a line when it is not a blind side hit, elbows are down, guy has the puck. Is contact to the head legal or not. Sometimes it can't be avoided if you decide to throw the hit. So does a guy have to back off then if the offensive guy is leading with his head, as Jake kinda was last night? Or can he be legally lit up like Jake was. They just need to be consistent one way or the other...of course the NHL's disciplinary arm has only been consistent in its inconsistency for as long as I can remember. - Lexington Flyer
I think they drew that conclusion on this play and said yes. The Letang hit was totally different imo. |

Kronwall does it like once a week though. He's very good at what he does. He really should answer the bell once in a while, though.
Plus, he's a hipster.

They didn't have any other options for a call up? Wasn't he playing overseas? |

I don't mind Kronwall not getting suspended, but I do mind the inconsistency in what is deserving of a suspension and what is not. Voracek needs to be aware and big hits are a part of hockey, but it's getting really frustrating trying I figure out what is and isn't allowed. - funmaster18
Jake played in the same division as Kronwall so if anyone should be aware to keep you head up..........I do wish someone would have beaten the snot out of him

Headshot? Maybe you should go watch the replay a couple more times ... - keatondixon
Why, is Jake's head somewhere other than the top of his body? |

Isn't that how players are taught to forecheck? First man in goes for the body, 2nd guy goes for the puck? And didn't Letang put himself in a vulnerable position? |

he took a quick look up before putting it back down and trying to corral the puck. guess he just didn't see nik there or didn't realize it was kronwall. |

Why does a guy need to answer the bell when all he does is throw clean hits? It's pathetic that players are expected to drop the gloves just because they know how to properly lay somebody out. Kronwall has no obligation to fight and why take himself outta the game for 5 just because of it. |

Ahhh... Conspiracy. Shanahan was the second gunmen on the grassy knoll.
I had a much bigger issue with Vlasic not being suspended for boarding Briere. Textbook case, that was puzzling to me. - PLindbergh31
Conspiracy? No such drama...
Simple facts.
Who got a penalty 2 minutes after the Kronwall hit last night? |

If any idiot on skates can lay a big hit, someone on the Flyers should have destroyed Zetterberg, or Franzen with a monster hit.
Kronwall doesn't fight it's not his game, sure it's kinda chickenpoop to not answer for your actions, but his actions weren't dirty, he laid a huge clean hard check on a player that put himself in a prone position, nothing more, nothing less. - PLindbergh31
Unfortunately, it's not a "nothing more, nothing less" scenario. You can try to leave it at that, but hockey spans over careers, not just 1 game. Kronwall may not have to answer for that hit until next year from the Flyers, and that's a shame. But he will have to answer for that hit eventually, be it from a Flyer or other player in the NHL.
And again, you can call it clean with the handful of others in here who want to call it that. But this is the new NHL. And a headshot is a headshot. That is a "nothing more, nothing less" certainty. Intentions or not, the first contact made on that hit was Kronwalls shoulder with Jake's head. There's no way that you could read the entire rulebook, watch a video of that hit, and then call it clean. You just can't. You can admire the hell out of that hit, and that's your prerogative.
But at the end of the day, Shanny turtled out of an easy call similarly to Kronwall turtling out of a fight with any undersized Flyer that was willing to stick up for his teammate. Good hitter or not, Kronwall should lose points with every NHL fan with that sequence. |

but the lunging and transferring of weight to project himself into the upper portion of a player (head) is. Here is a perfect example of a clean hard body to body check where a player turns their back.

All of these hits by PK Subban are with him turning his back, and all are against much smaller opponents who are bent.. not a single one does he make contact with a head. - jak521
The first two clips the guy PK goes to hit are basically sideways making it almost impossible to hit their head. In the 3rd clip PK actually leaves his skates to hit the guy. The last clip was the closest example imo. Because PK slightly bends over before he goes to hit those guys the initial point of contact is lower on the body. Those are mostly textbook body checks imo. I'm not defending all of Kronwall's hits by any means. There have been several dirty ones. I've already said that. Last night's was not one of them imo. No amount of video clips is going to change my opinion of that.
