I don't get it. I thought any hit that's principal point of contact is the head is a suspendable offense. I don't think you have to target the head, because it is subjective whether you think someone targets something. Should be take away boarding penalities and suspensions if the board wasnt on purpose? - RooNosHockey
All im saying is if Voracek has his head up this hit probably doesnt happen. He delivered a check about the same time Voracek was picking his head up. Its a questionable hit but the NHL ruled it clean (along with the refs). |

of course not. but i have little faith in the league's discipline system when you can just as easily envision a suspension video as you can no discipline whatsoever. - wilsonecho91
I would've liked to see a video explaining why this isn't being pursued, just so we have the reasoning on record. I'll also preemptively say that I didn't actually expect one, and I do understand it'd come with an expectation from many of an explainer on every non-suspension. I'd just like to hear the rational from Shanahan himself, not just a McKenzie tweet.
EDIT: I'd even be satisfied with a written explanation. |

Can someone explain to me how Kronwall doesn't get 2 games for the head shot. He got nothing but head with that hit. - LJF
Wasn't a head shot. The hit was body to body with Voracek's head coming into contact with Kronwall's arm because his head was low and down. The fault is on Voracek. |

The rationale will be exactly what Voracek said this morning-he had his head down and put himself in a dangerous spot. |

there reaches a point of agree to disagree.
Kronwall has a rep and players should know it.
I have my stance and others will have their stance. so be it.
the NHL has ruled they will not be looking into the matter.
Next time Lindros, I mean Jake should keep his up, right Umberger?
Daylight savings time this weekend!!! |

I just want it from the horse's mouth, after seeing the Bob M tweet that they recognized the head as the principle point of contact. I'll accept the suggestion that this request is sour grapes on my part, I suppose. |

So you think Kronwall should of been suspended? You think he delibrately targeted the head of Voracek? IMO I think Voracek got caught with his head down and got rocked. I dont think Kronwall was targeting his head. He may have hit it bc Voracek was lifting his head up at the same time as the hit was coming. However I understand the opposite point of this arguement. Its questionable but when the player himself says it was a clean hit its hard to argue it. |

Yeah, daylight savings, which means I lose a (frank)ing hour out of my weekend. |

Edit: I love that it means that we're almost through the woods, but what sucks is that we just started having some light when we leave for work in the morning and then it goes back to pitch black for another week or two until we catch back up. |

Not any hit to the head. Rule 48 states that there are mitigating circumstances that will make certain hits unpunished.
Voracek himself says it was a clean hit, and that he was at fault for putting himself in a bad position.
For the afternoon, maybe we could change gears and look at the Zapruder film or some of the Loch Ness videos and see if we can pick out Nessie. - Jsaquella
Hey, I just got on... Give me a freaking break. One of our players got laid out, and the hit looked suspendable to me. IMO Kornhole saw that Voracek had his head down, then delivered the hit. Voracek didnt just drop his head as the hit was delivered. It was an avoidable hit to a prone player. Whether it targeted the head or not is subjective. The head was in front and down for long enough that Kornhole should have laid off the hit. I'm not talking about letting Voracek pass, but he didnt and shouldnt have stepped into the check. |

Thats the point I was trying to make also. If Voracek had his head up the contact up high doesnt happen, imo. |

All I know is, what I wrote is more or less what Shanahan would say if he did have a video or written explanation. He's said as much on previous hits that went unpunished.
This is why I'd like a 5 person committee, so the onus is not on one guy. |

I posted the same thing last night, except that there was no quote from Voracek until this morning.
I agree that Kronwall could have held up, but I also said last night I doubted there would be any action by the NHL, based on Rule 48. |

according to the rule that's not supposed to matter unless it happens right before the hit |

Totally immaterial. Rinaldo didn't lay the hit. Rule 48 is pretty clear that contact to the head is legal if the league feels that the player who was hit put himself in a vulnerable position immediately prior to or simultaneously with the contact.
Obviously they feel that Voracek had his head down and put himself in a bad spot. |

Voracek's head was in front of his body, and was well before Kornhole delivered the hit. It was obvious when he stepped into the check the principal point of contact was going to be Voracek's head...
Voracek might just be saying the check was clean because he doesnt want to be a whining player like Crosby and blame others when he should have his head up... |
