i guess i just don't want to see hitting removed from the game. if any hit to the head is suspension worthy, i think you will see a drop in all kinds of hits. just because players will be scared to accidentally hit the head. that goes too far IMO - FlyerMike18
Im talking more like the hit Kronwall had not two players who run into each other and one hits the other in the head. |

Exactly. You have to be smarter when trying to lay a crushing hit on an opposing player. |

It'll force players to change the way they approach that element of the game, but I don't agree with the sentiment "you may as well take all hitting out," as some have suggested. |

I don't want to see hitting removed from the game either. I don't think anyone does. But I want to see hitting with a purpose. The hitting should be to separate a player from the puck, or to try and force a player into a turnover by pressuring them with an oncoming hit. The hits that shouldn't be in the game, are the ones like the Kronwall hit. Where they see a player has his head down, isn't looking, or is vulnerable so the opportunity is taken to hit a player when he's not capable of protecting himself. Whether that's his own fault or not. Have respect for your fellow players and not hit to punish a player. And there is a flip side to that. Players must also have the respect not to purposely put themselves in a bad spot to try and draw a penalty or avoid a hit.

i was only referring to a black and white "contact with the head = suspension" rule. if you want to remove all "gray area", i personally believe you will necessarily be cutting back on a lot of "ok" hits
just my opinion though. i'm not saying i'm against any revision of the rule, or change in the way it's implemented. i just don't think a bright-line rule can solve it |

fair enough, but that necessarily implies some gray area, right? |

I'm not in disagreement there. I think making any hit to the head a suspension and a penalty doesn't work either. |

So the Mario statue in Pittsburgh features him schooling Rich Pilon and Jeff Norton. The statue Pilon moves faster than the real one did
FWIW Pilon said he thinks that the statue is pretty cool

The Kronwall hit negated a rush, thats why it looked so vicious because Voracek was ramping up speed, there was a lot of momentum in that event from both players. I don't want to see hits like this removed, it taught Voracek a lesson and he is still a young player. Keep your shifts short or expect to make mistakes like this at the end of long ones. |

maybe next time voracek should duck and hit kronwall's knees cause kronwall put himself in a vulnerable position when trying to kill voracek |

I think its easy to seperate a hit like Kronwalls versus a basic hit. |

Rule 48 is terrible. Leaves many doors open. Hitting a player in the head will continue to be a "gray" area until they make clear cut changes. |

The length of the shift had zero to do with the play. I absolutely want to see hits like that removed from the game. |

The NHL always protects its "star" players so you have to wonder if a suspension would of been handed out if it were Datysuk, Malkin, Stamkos, Sedin (who had been hit)... |

No suspensions were handed out for either of the hits that started Crosby's concussion issues. |

You are correct. The one hit on Crosby was like a running into each other type hit if I remember correctly. Or did they throw out an elbow why skating by? I could be wrong... |
