100%. If you wanna bait someone to steal the puck or seperate him from it without trying to kill him then that's cool. Kronwall knows how this hit will end up if things go his way. That's my beef. Pretty dirty. - gforce
No respect... at all. I hate how he spins his body so that his back/shoulder take the blow.. He knows that hitting people as hard as he tries hurts when its face to face.

Heard Espo on Sirius/XM last night saying that he talked to Donald Fehr recently, and Fehr had one question for him, "what do you think of the instigator rule?" Espo said that he hated it, and Fehr acknowledged that it was a common sentiment among the people he's talked to.
I think it's going to be a major talking point during CBA negotes. - bradleyc4
Not really a topic for CBA negotiations. That's a playing rule, and is a conversation for the Competition Committe. |

Thats Kronwall's game. He is very physical and Voracek got caught with his head down. It happens. Kronwall hit him in the face bc Voracek was looking down and unfortunately he wasn't able to protect himself. - stveshdy

I hate how he constantly gets "reputation calls"
he got that unsportsmanlike penalty as a way for the refs to establish their dominance and prevent a war... what did he do? He pushed a guy. Yup. - jak521
Yep. He's worked hard to stay on the right side of the line, but he's still a marked man. I think he's done a good job, overall. |

It was a clean hit.
Yes, the head was primary point of contact, but I like hitting in hockey and understand that sometimes the head will be the primary point of contact even when the hitter isn't making it so.
Jake has to keep his head up there. - ggunky
Are we talking opinion here, or are we talking whether it was a clean hit according to the rules? Because according to Rule 48, it's not a clean hit. |

Im not going to disagree that it was a head shot bc it was. The only issue is was it a head shot bc Voracek was looking down and then when he looked up the hit was already at him. Its going to be a tough decision for Shanahan to make. Kronwall continues to lay people out and will continue to do so until someone does something about it. |

"principle point of contact" provision violated and while I hate that it's come to this, if kronwall doesn't change he should be run out of the league. one head hit after another... |

I agree, not an elbow. But the thing about the hit is, it wasn't a hockey play. In that situation, 99 times out of 100, the defender starts into the defensive zone, trying to get himself in a position to defend the rush. Rarely will they step up, and if they do, it's to PINCH OFF the attacker, or knock the puck deep. Should Jake keep his head up? Yeah, probably, but have you tried to pick a puck up off the boards in the snow? Not as easy said as done. It was not a sporting hit, I like that. It wasn't dirty, in the sense that it wasn't malicious. But it was far from clean, too...
When I was a kid, and I broke or spilled something by accident, to avoid my father's wrath I would say "I didn't try it!" His response was always "You didn't try not to, either..."
A little respect could have gone a long way. He didn't have to lay a devastating check. Personally, his decision to go ahead with it is enough for me. I think he should be suspended. Of course, I'm a bit jaded, since Rinaldo has gotten the short end of the Shanny stick of late... - meckelangelo
Yeah, the puck was behind him and he's trying to bring it up to control it, so naturally he's not looking up the ice.
The respect issue is what gets me, too. Could Kronwall have shrunk down a few inches to deliver the shoulder to Jake's chest instead? Sure. I'd like to see some sort of disciplinary action here, simply for the 'vulnerable position' Voracek was in from playing the trailing puck. Not sure there'll be any though.

If you watch the hit, you'll see that Voracek is reaching and looking slightly behind him to get the puck. And at that point there is by estimation a good 12-15 between the two players when Kronwall sees that the player is vulnerable and because of it, goes in for a hit on a player he knows he can crush. There is time there for Kronwall to let up on the hit. That and the fact that he makes contact on the head, makes it an illegal hit. The Language in Rule 48 is clear. |

Its a very questionable hit. If Voracek wasnt looking down would it be a clean hit? Does Kronwall even hit his head if he was prepared for it? I honestly dont know. What we do know is that Voracek was hit in the head and Shanahan has to make a decision. The NHL wants to protect its players then I would assume he will have a meeting. |

I dont disagree. Honestly everything you posted makes sense. What I posted is something the NHL will consider. Was the hit necessary, probably not. |

Agreed. The lack of respect shown by Kronwall made me sick to my stomach. How he doesnt drop the gloves to 3 different flyers is beyond me. |

Just re-upping the picture...
I must be crazy, but to me, it's pretty clear the K-wall's skates are off the ice. His front one almost an inch, and even the back one is not planted. He's elevated his center of mass, attempting to focus his weight for a high hit. Not necessarily the head, but definitely high.
EDIT: Also notice the guy with the orange floaties watching intently... |

It was a dirty hit, imo ... but to get into measuring whether a guys skates were a fraction of an inch off the ice is overdoing it. A lot of hits result in a players skates coming up an inch or two, just from the force of the contact.
Having said all of that, I hope Kronwall gets 3 games. |

When Jake's arms reached up like he was still holding his stick - or trying to push the lid off a coffin - you've got to know that f'n bad!
If Kronwall launched himself, add another game or 2 to the suspension.
And take away the instigator rule so someone can tune him up the next time this happens...and it will happen again.
