and your entitled to a free break out just because your player puts himself in a vulnerable position? - jdd0001
Do you have a point you're trying to make, or are you just arguing for the sake of defending a guy in red and white? |

Again.. you continue to be totally clueless. Kronwall is a hell of a hitter, but (as my nearly 10 links on an early page suggest) he loves going high. |

Hell.. even the Wings TV guys suspected a phone call from the league, and said as much during last nights telecast. |

I just wonder what this guy's point is. This "should've coughed up the puck/you don't deserve a breakout" thing sounds entirely meaningless. |

i don't know if he's legit or not, but for some reason i posted a photo of him in the board about a year or two ago. i have no idea why, other than that i probably found his name to be funny.

Heres my question. Crosby is back on Sunday supposedly. Say they play Detroit and Kronwall throws that exact same hit.. and likely ends Crosbys career. Any discipline then? What is the limit.. is there a threshold? - jak521
There better not be. By not laying down the law now, Shanny is writing the script for the future. If they're going to go with "old time hockey" I'm fine with that but it needs to be old time hockey no matter who throws the hit, or who gets hit, same rules for every player and team in the league. I thought Shanny started off strong in his role as the disciplinarian as the season started but he may as well be Colon Campbell now. Same poop, different poopter. |

Clearly that's not the case.
Kronwall destroys Jake = nothing. Rinaldo taps a Detroit player = penalty.
What happens if Rinaldo hits Zetts like Kronwall hit Jake? |

I'm flabbergasted there is no suspension for Kronwall. I give up. I thought it was a textbook example of a hit the NHL is trying to eliminate. I guess I have no clue what the rule is anymore. Very frustrating. |

I would have felt worse. Zetterberg shouldn't have to pay for Kronwall's misgivings.

Per the Chris Therien anecdote I posted a month or so ago: That's how Berube got one of the Rangers to stop running guys. He threatened to beat up Brian Leetch if his teammate didn't stop it. It stopped. |

That's exactly how I feel. Is it a Detroit get-out-of-jail-free connection with Shanny or is there no sense anymore from his office? Either way, I am being turned off by the sport. |

Look I am a liberal academic deadhead peace & love kinda guy, but when you are talking hockey, it is by nature a violent sport. You blow up my skill guy, get ready 'cause I'm looking for one of yours. If it doesn't happen this game, don't worry, I took notes for the next time the teams meet. Maybe Zetterberg shouldn't have to pay for Kronwall's actions, but at the very least he should have to keep his head on a swivel after Kronwall lights someone up like that. I thought it was a clean hit, but turnabout is fair play.
having said that, I hope Jake is feeling alright this morning.

My only guess is that there is a difference between "targeting the head" which would indicate intent, and making contact with the head because it wasn't where it was supposed to be. IE down.
I said last night I didn't think anything would come of it, but am still mildly surprised nothing came of it.
Now on to the real issue, debating the instigator rule, and how it has contributed to the declining level of player safety in the league.

Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
No suppl disc for Kronwall on Voracek. PPOC was head but deemed full body on body hit. Not a hit NHL believes should be out of the game. - BoomGoesTheCoburn
Ferraro said as much this morning when asked, and he hadn't heard McKenzie's comment at that point.
Look, Kronwall has laid some dirty hits in the past and no doubt will again in the future. Last night's hit was not dirty though imo. If you don't want to see that then banish hitting from the game altogether. We can't get consensus on this hit in here and I guarantee that they can't get consensus among the 30 Board of Governors either.
And the instigator rule being in or out of the game won't change the way Kronwall plays imo. I could be wrong on that, but I think he still plays the way he does either way. |

Kronwall should have fought for injuring an opposing player, I agree. But he won't.
But he shouldn't be intentionally injured, nor should any of his teammates. That's barbaric. - bradleyc4
Not intentionally injured, but they should be prepared to be lit up the exact same way. If the officials say its OK for one team, the other team should take notes and take the dampers off on their hitting. If they are going to let the game be played that way, I'd like to see Grossman lay a hit like that on one of the other team's star players. Ouch. Make 'em think twice about trying to wheel on through the neutral zone. |
