I remember that play with Timonen. Any time there is an apparent serious injury, especially a head injury play should be stopped immediately. Case closed. It was inexcusable that play continued with Voracek down in a heap. - PLindbergh31
Voracek was fine. If he layed there down on the ice with no movement the whistle would of been blown. This is hockey not ballet class. |

IIRC, that story was 1 guy betting on games he was officiating, not endlessly and unfairly persecuting 1 team troughout the history of their franchise as it obviously occurs with the nhl and the Flyers. - funmaster18
I don't believe in using referees as an excuse. I do think there is a built in stereotype when it comes to the Flyers based on their history, I don't think they get the benefit of doubt often, but I don't buy into the conspiracy theorists.
The situation with Donaghy was, he got in over his head with gambling debts, and he was impacting games he refereed as a way to wipe away his debts. |

The fact that the Flyers have the most power plays in the league, along with being the most shorthanded team in the league, would seem to fly against the theory that the refs are out to get them.

I see your sarcasm... But I am going to seriously say I dont think the Refs are trying to screw the Flyers as much as its a sub-conscious reaction. The Refs have the broad street bullies in the back of thier minds... Thier team's announcers always saying how dirty they are, how thier actions hurt hockey... They might not be actively trying to screw the Flyers, but I think subconsiously they make tighter calls against them, and allow looser calls on thier opponents... Maybe not all Refs, but most.
And just so you know its not a Fan's biased opinion... I have a friend that is a Rangers fan, and he see's it too... He has a long running joke with me, that if a Ref see's 2 guys on the ice, but didn't see the play... "When in doubt, call a penality on the Flyers.." - RooNosHockey
I cant imagine "refs" still having the broad st bullies on their minds. That was over 30 years ago. It may seem that way but I dont think refs call penalties based on past history. |

Once Kerry Fraser retired the Flyers lost their only chance at getting a fair shake |

Good question. Not sure winning two Cups guarantees a coach a Hall of Fame induction. See Shero, Fred. |

I mean from 30 years ago. Not with players who are currently playing in todays game. Refs are not going to penalize Shelley bc Dave "the Hammer" Shultz beat an opposing player up during the Broad St Bully days. |

I don't know if this has been addressed but i hope one thing that can be ironed out in the new CBA is when you have a dead contract or a player that you are not going to play, there is an easier way to "release" him.
As much as they might not be playing for the Flyers, I would think if the Flyers would be allowed too they would Unconditionally release a few players. |

Or at least put in language in an "over 35" contract that understands the very easily discernible difference between "signing a guy over 35 long term to avoid a big cap hit and letting him retire a few years in to the contract", and a player suffering a career ending injury.

I'm not saying they are actively thinking about the BSB's.... But the Flyers operated with that mentality until about 4 years ago..., though not as "dirty" as the Bullies of the 70's, they were always the bigger, tougher team that came in and pounded your home team...
I just think that more penalities get called without the Refs really consciously doing so... |

Possibly. It all depends upon if he coaches Chris Stewart into the ground, who will then be traded to Philly for Cullen Eddy. |
